1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale and the 442

1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale and the 442
Hello,
I'm new here. I just made a purchase of a real nice 1983 Olds Delta 88 Royale Brough. It's in real good condition. It does need to have a new air conditioner compressor put in and that’s being done now. The body is in great shape. No rust or dents. The molding for the half section of the vinyl roof has cracked. That can be replaced.
I live in Florida and wished that I was in California for a while so that the OverHaulin Show could rebuild my car! I know that’s not going to happen!
So I may try to fix it back up to the original spec's or and this is one of my questions that I have. Can a 1983 Olds Delta 88 Royale Brough be made to look like a 1983 Olds 442?
Was the 1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brough ever considered as one of the named “Muscle Cars” from that era? The cars in great shape now and I don’t know if I should change the way it looks to something that would come from a design from Chip Foose and the Overhaulin' team as they turn wrecks into dream rides. My Delta 88 isn’t a wreck by any means but I would like it to show more of the Muscle Car image like the 442. That’s why I wondering if the body’s of these two cars were similar?

The Delta 88 is a B body. The Cutlass/442 is an A body. Nothing interchanges between them except engine parts and possibly some interior parts.
IMHO, it would be sacrelige to change a Delta 88 into a quasi 442 by putting badges and markings onto it. There was a Delta 88 Pace Car in 1978 I believe. There was also a sporty Holiday 88 in the late 70s that had bucket seats and a console.
The easiest thing you could do to make it more sporty would be to put SS wheels on it. Those make anything look better.

J Chicago is a member on our board that is a guru when it comes to 80s B bodies. He can tell you anything you want to know. He has spruced up quite a few as I recall. Once he posts here he should have good advice. You can also PM him.

Thanks Olds64 for your feedback. I do like the Olds 442 and the Cutlass. At the same time since you say that the Delta 88 is a B body and the Cutlass/442 is an A body. I won't be making the Delta 88 to look like a Cutlass/442. I would however like to dress it up a bit as if it were in the hands of Chip Foose without doing any sacrelige to it. I'm looking to make it look more like a Muscle Car from that era. Someone suggested that it would make a great Lowrider. I'm not so sure I want to do that!

Welcome to our site. Personally, I wouldn't want ol' Chip to put his hands on any of my cars because it would turn out Chip's car not mine. The same for anyone else. You need to do your car your way, the way you like it. If you like what Chip does to cars concentrate on a large (18 inch) wheel/tires combo and be prepared to spend some bucks. Then concentrate on the body/paint and be prepared to spend some bucks again. Finally look at the interior if it needs it. From the external view that most non-car people take the wheels and paint would do it. Good luck.

if they can make a White Fiero look like a lambo then i guess you can make your car look like what ever you want just lots of fiber glass
