1966 88 Sheet Metal Question

Hey guys,
The trunk floor sheet metal in my 66 dynamic has rusted through in some places. While I think it would be ambitious/entertaining to fab up a big patch panel for this, I'd be better off finding good metal from a donor car. I had to patch it up with fiberglass in order to get it insured, so it's nothing I'm in a rush to get. I just want to be able to spot any potential donor cars when browsing the local ads.

Do you guys know what cars will have the same trunk floor as my 66 88?

Rich

Does anyone have advice on how I can determine which cars have similar sheet metal in the trunk as my 66 88?

Any 1966 Olds B Body would work right? But I don't know where to read up on the detailed model changes over the years to see what other year Olds' would work. I'm asking because there don't seem to be any local wreckers or other sources with 88's from the 60's. For now I just look over the local ads in hopes of catching something.

I would think the 65 and 66 B bodies would all have the same trunk floor but am not sure about the 98;s cause the quarters and rear bumper and tail lights are not the same as the other B bodies. The 67 to 70 cars would prob be similar but not an exact match. I would think the floor stamping would vary some. I doubt that Pontiac, Buick or Chevy would be an exact match. If it were me I would search for a desert donor car 66 65 88's or starfire.

Thanks,
Wish there were some wreckers around here just to even take a look at other years/models. But your info should help out with any local stuff that pops up in the ads.

Cheers.

You might compare the photos of this Pontiac repro trunk pan with yours. I'd guess it would be pretty close.
Amazon Amazon

By the way, Rock Auto sells it for less than Amazon.

I'm in the same boat as you Rocket - just bought a 66 eighty eight rag and require patching to pass a safety. I've been looking around online and haven't found anyone yet that carries patch panels. I have a clean 1966 98 parts car i hope i can use the rockers and front floor pans for but anyone else that has any information on sheet metal for these cars would be greatly appreciated.

98s have a longer wheel base than 88s. The rockers will be different - you'd need to cut out a section in the middle and weld them back together. I don't know where the wheelbase difference was added in the floor pan, but I'll guess that it is in the rear footwells, so the fronts should be the same.

Yeah there are some differences - as well the 98 is a four door holiday and the 88 is a ragtop. Figgured it would be better than attempting to fab by hand. Hope anyone else out there has a resource or knows of anything else out there will fit

Try Fremans Auto Wreckers in Whitehall Montana. I know they have '66 Olds "B" body stuff there as I bought a fender from them a couple of years ago....great condition. They are in a very dry area and are a lot closer to you than they were to me, I had it shipped Greyhound to Bangor Maine for $95.00 and I did the pick-up from Nova Scotia.

I'd give Neil Freman a shout...check out his website
www.fremansauto.com/

You should find what you need from him..a very good person to deal with.
