1964 DYNAMIC 88 ****CARB QUESTION****
I have a 1964 Dynamic 88 that was originally a 2 bbl on a 394 ci. I bought a 4 bbl intake for the 394, but cant figure out which carb I need for the new intake. I believe after all my search efforts that The carb number I need is 4GC #7024050 Is this correct? Where can I get the correct carb? Any help/suggestions/feedback/anticipated problems is appreciated-Thanks

carb
Should I anticipate any linkage issues or trans shifting issues converting from 2bbl to a 4bbl? Its got the 4 sp roto-hydramatic. It shifts great now, but heard it can be a very "stubborn" tranny.

How do I know exactly what # carb I need? How do I know if I need manual or automatic choke? Theres so many different variations of the same carb Im getting frustrated trying to figure out what I need, and what I dont need on the carb? I just want to make sure my trans will shift properly,I get more power from take off, and a nice idle. Im not picky lol
HERES A FOR INSTANCE-
Whats the difference between the Rochester 4GC #7020955 and the 4GC #7024050?

If you are restoring your car "original" then you will want the specific carb that came on your car. This may be difficult. Your best bet it to locat a parts car in a salvage yard and remove the carb from it. The only problem is that you will have to find a car with the 4 barrel option. Truthfully, I don't know if the 4 barrel carbuertor was an option for your car. Do some asking around, I am sure someone will know.
You could always find a 4GC carburetor that was mated to a Slim Jim and you should be good to go. However, those transmissions are so finicky I would be wary about changing anything with the TV rod.

If I remember correctly, The TV rod is the same (as far as the rod that actually goes to the lever on the trans) It goes to the lever that bolts to the back water outlet on the head. The linkage from there to the carb is different. Hope this helps

The 7020955 is a part number for 1962 88 and 98 carb with air conditioning...7024050 is for a 1964 394 (no air conditioning and not a California car) A 1964 carb found on a 394 will have the number 7024050 (as described above) 7024051- with air conditioning... 7024154 - if it was a California car...7024153 - if its a California car with air conditioning

I had an Edelbrock carburetor on my 1964 Olds 98 for a short time. I manufactured a TV rod with "all thread," "turn buckles," and "linkage studs" I got from the hardware store. It seemed to work ok; however, I am not a mechanical engineer. I was never sure if I truely had zero slack at closed throttle, and the proper position of the TV at WOT.

Does anyone have the linkage from a 4bbl 1964 Dynamic/starfire/jetstar they want to sell???? PM me with a price
I believe I can use the 2bbl tv rod, but I need the rest of the linkage AND brackets for the linkage that bolt onto the back of the head.
Any info you wish to share on a 2-4bbl conversion is also appreciated

Let me know if you need a specific picture, I'm finishing a 64 4bl dynamicc 88 as we speak. I'd be happy to take photos before it leaves. Also you may look up classicautopartsonline.com Mike waller, he had a couple of those cars it seems in Idaho in his yard.

Try this guy: Chris Witt (517) 449-0432. RocketScience442@hotmail.com. He has a ton of carbs, may be able to help.

carb linkage
I have a '64 Olds Starfire with the 394 cid/Slim Jim and original 4-bbl manifold with Rochester 4GC and have spent a good deal of time rebuilding the carb and setting up the linkages. I am finally pretty satisfied with the performance of the carb and the relationship to the transmission - it took a good bit of work. I can say that the preceeding set of pictures is very accurate. If I sent pictures of mine - they would look very much like those just previously posted. Do not be too paranoid on this issue - these are mechanical devices and you can get it right. GM workers and subsequent mechanics of the era managed to get things right, and we have not all lost the ability since those days. Good luck with your project !

@ 64Super88 Those are EXACTLY what I needed *VERY HELPFUL* Thanks!!!
Are you going to use a 2bbl TV rod or was this originally 4 bbl?

Its and original 4bbl car. The trans was removed when I purchased the car. When I finally get around to fixing the car it will have a Ross Racing TH350 conversion... at that point it time I will have to mount the TH350 kick down cable.

Update-
I finally pulled the old 2bbl intake and carb off/got it all cleaned up/and mounted the 4bbl intake and carb. I have never seen a metal intake gasket like this one before, but I guess thats how they come as there was a metal one under the stock intake also?
STILL LOOKING FOR THE LINKAGE FOR THE CARB as you can see in the pic
Help a fellow Oldsmobile'r out

This isn't even relevant beings this post is getting old enough to vote but as stated in the OP's original post the transmission is not a 4 speed but a 3 speed. This transmission has been misrepresented for years so don't run out and get a Slim Jim thinking you will gain a extra gear, It was a marketing ploy back in the sixties, guess they didn't think we could count then..... The gentleman responsed to an old post that was looking for a 394 4 barrel intake. That was back in Nov 2018. Only a couple months ago. I offered a complete engine and tranny setup. As for the 3 and 4 speed tranny stuff, not sure what your point is or whether you are on the right thread. D

Post #3 Oct.5 2009"It's got the 4 sp Roto-hydramatic".... If this matters, some people still believe the Roto-10 is still a 4 speed which it is not. Just trying to keep info straight for others..... Tedd
