'60 Dynamic 88 Carburetor question

Hello,

I am Nils from Germany. Although I am always fond of Oldsmobiles I own a 1962 Cadillac convertible for myself.

I registered here on behalf of a friend who has a 1960 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 sedan but no affection to the digital world.

He has the following problem:

The 2bbl Rochester on his is engine is creating difficulties constantly.

We have not found an overhaul kit yet. An alternative would be the switch to a 4bbl carburetor , but we do not know which manifolds interchange to the original '60 371 engine.

So, my question is,

a) are there overhaul kits for a '60 Rochester 2bbl carburetor

b) is there a manifold for a 4bbl carburetor which fits the '60 371?

Thanks in advance,

Nils

Or try this place https://quadrajetparts.com/accelerat...c-104_109.html What you are looking fore is a kit for a Rochester 2gc. There should be plenty to chose from it's a pretty common carb in the states. Hopefully there is still a copper tag with a number on one corner of the carb body that will help identify which 2gc it is,there were many..... Tedd

Thanks a lot! Great help.

Now he has to make the decision if he wants to overhaul it or change over to a 4bbl.

Would the 394 intake manifold for the 4bbl carburetor fit the 371? If yes, which years do interchange?

As stated above 59 and later 371/394 will work but also keep in mind that any you will find will be 50 years old and probably the carb will need to be rebuilt also. The carb you would need for the new intake will be the Rochester 4gc. Different new carbs are available but not Rochester and linkage will need to made to adapt to that car. Very doable but not a plug and play thing... Tedd

Thanks for the great advice.

I agree with you. He has a nice survior in Golden Mist but constant trouble with the original carburetor.

I am trying to convince him to keep the original carb and not to switch to an Edelbrock carb or the like.

X2 here .

While an Edelbrock carb will bolt up to the stock Olds four barrel manifold .
It will take a degree from the McGuyver school of engineering to design and build the proper throttle linkage so that the transmission will shift properly .

Also , the Ebelbrock was designed with high performance in mind .
Switching to it will probably cause a drop in already bad fuel mileage .
