$200 with or without the brakes.

Take the cover off and turn the axle BEFORE you buy it, make sure all the teeth are there. You're probably going to want to replace the fluid anyway if it's still there. See if it looks clean and is not burnt

Something like that usually goes for $700.00,for a non-posi.It's more if it has a posi. The G-body 8.5" housings are fairly valuable.Just make sure it's an 8.5" and not a 7.5".If it is an 8.5" get the drivehshaft as you mentioned.

Before you hand over any money, be ABSOLUTELY SURE it's an 8.5. Buick did not start using the 8.5 in the G-body cars until the 1985 model year, so if it really is an 8.5, it's been swapped in. Also verify that it really is a G-body axle and not an A-body axle that was forced into place.

Well it turn out the one he was trying to sell me was a 7.5 the funny thing is there was another regal t type next to it with the 8.5 so went and got the guy and he was like o I did not know but of couse he would not sell me the right one.

I can stand people like that.

I read the first two replies and the first thing that came into my head is that if you see an 83 TType with an 8.5, somebody put it there. 84 in the HO, 85 in the Buhog T cars. Oh well. But if you can score a peg leg polly for under $700 you are in good shape.

My 81 Bu has an 85 TType diff with a 79 Z28 center section and Strange 28 spline axles. Factory 3.73s out of a 76 TA and Frankenrear was born.I am sure it will have to break eventually, but it has survived exactly 121 10 second passes on drag radials.

I have to question that that the first year was 85. My research shows 84.

Last one I had was a 3:73 open from a 87 442 and took a couple of years to sell. Had maybe a couple of dozen potential buyers ask about it. Soon as I tell them it's non posi it's no sale! On the other hand I've had 3 with posi and never took more than a month or so to sell.

I would suggest you start a new thread of your own in the parts wanted section... You are tagging onto a thread where the last post is almost 3 years old and members may pass it by since it was actually started in 2011...

X2 ang you could try the G-body forums, someone may have one for sale. They are getting harder to find these gays and are on the pricey side.
I agree with John on starting thread in parts wanted, someone may have one here.

I agree with this...1983 should not have a 8.5 10 bolt rear under it...it was a 7.5 from the factory. BE SURE your getting what you pay for.
DO not start the offer...If someone is selling it they should start the price. Jim
