I have an 82 Cutlass 3.8, and i was wondering if the 3.42 Posi gears from my brother's 86 IROC-Z28 would swap in. Also, I heard the 1982 V6's had a 3.08 rear end from stock, Is this true? Any feedback is great, Thanks

 

Yes the 1986 10 bolt 7.5 posi and gears will swap into your g-body 7.5 rear. YOU DO need to reset all the backlash and pinion depth... It is not just like bolting on a door handle or something...lol.

3.08 gears. 231 can come with any ratio more likely they came with 2.29 2.41 etc. torquey motor will get the crappy gears and the motors that are gut-less got the steeper gears to get them moving.

The Irocs normally came with 9bolt Aussie rears. Be careful and ID that rear before assuming it is the same rear. Jim
