Question driveshaft question

I have a '78 Cutlass. Stock 305 chevy motor, 350 trans and stock rear..

I believe I have a driveshaft issue.. Getting a rotational vibration on the highway above 50mph.. No vibration in steering wheel.. feel it in the butt.. So it's coming from the rear.. The shaft is most likely the stock 34yr old unit.. So I'm looking to replace it..

Wondering if anyone here would know off-hand, what the stock length is, and what type of u-joints they use..

I have used a company in the past called MuscleMotor Sports.. They sell Nascar take-off parts and if they have the length shaft I need, I can get it from them for $90 + shipping.. They are 4" diam(yes overkill I know) diam, come with 1350 U-joints and billet 1350 yokes.. So I will need to get conversion u-joints..

Does the cutlass use 1310? 1330? 3R?

Any help appreciated.. I won't be able to get the shaft out till the weekend to check/verify anything, so just hoping someone can help me out in advance with any info..

thanks again
Joe

you can replace the u joints if the shaft itself isn't hurt =) pretty cheap for the parts and you can do it yourself if you got the time. they sell a kit to cut the old joints out and the new ones are held in with c-clips.

u-joints

your 78 cutlass will use the Mech 3r joint like every vehicle in the late seventies and 80's So you will need a conversion joint from Mechanics to 1350. Boom your done. Jim Becareful on the use Nascar parts... I have heard good and bad... Jim
