Driveshaft

Hey guys, I have a 71 olds cut supreme 2 door holiday coupe and it had a turbo 350 trans. I just put a 73 Buick electra 225 turbo 400 in it. I know that the driveshaft needs to be about 6.25'' shorter with the 400 slipe yoke on it. I measured it to be a 49" center of u-joint to center of u-joint driveshaft is what I need (my factory cutty one is 55"), what vehicles might I be able to find the driveshaft in to put into my cutlass? I found one in a 70's buick that had a 400 and was a 2 door but it measures 56 5/8" u-joint to u-joint. Im trying to find a cheaper answer than the $200 dollar one the driveshaft shop wants to do anything for me.
Any advice will be helpful
Thanks
Ryan

Unless someone else chimes in here with a better idea, I think you only have two options. 1. You pull wrecking yard and your tape measure or the drive shaft mod for the $200.00 which from my perspective sounds like an ok deal. I paid more then that for my driveshaft.

I'll agree with Pat $200 doesn't sound too bad. I've never heard of any drive shafts that would work with the long tail 400 without modification.

I assume that when you took that measurement, you bottomed the yoke in the trans then pulled it out about an inch, right?

Correct, I also measured and calculated the distance the output shaft sticks out of the end of the case and how long the stock yoke was and went in and so on..........
Thanks everyone for your input!

drive shaft

Can you not cut the one you have for less than 100.00 ?? I do not know where and how out in the middle of no where you are but that is all it costs here to cut and rebalance driveshafts.

JUnk yard with a tape measure i would try first. Alot of yards just have school bus loads of them to go through. JIm
