Can anyone identify this diff?

I've been told by 3 people now that they've never seen one like this before. One guy even sent a couple of pictures he took to the guys at Brothers and they were baffled too...
It was under my '65 VC.

( happy now Dave?! )

Hollander shows the application for '65 Vista Cruiser to be the VC & '65 Buick Special Skyview ONLY!! & I know i've never looked under one of those.

#1369825 (is this the casting number on the center section?)

I'm going to blast it tomorrow - I'll check. Any reason why this housing would be different? Extra bump stops for excessive travel? I dunno.

Everything looks correct for a 65 vista. BOP 8.2" 10-bolt. I'm sure Brothers would not know since they just sit on your money until they locate the part that you ordered. The way the shock mounts are shaped are just like the later Vista rears.

Hey Stan,

This is the one. I'll be blasting it this afternoon so all will be revealed.
Expect more pics this evening...

Differential I.D. numbers

Ok so it's all cleaned up and I have 3 sets of numbers. Have a look at the pics. Can the gear ratio be determined by the casting numbers? Is there any benefit / desireability to this type of differential? If so the next obvious question is value?

I didn't see any numbers on the p.s. axle tube but these numbers were on the housing:

#1369829 (p.s. rear)
342 (p.s. front)
CFD 1 ( d.s. rear)

Thanks.

The 342 is the julian date,or the day of the year that it was cast,so it looks like it was cast the 342nd day of 1964,and went into an early 1965 Vista.
The 1369829 is the casting number for the pumpkin.
The ratio code woul be stamped, not cast, and it should be on the passenger side tube.

And the CFD 1 is just a Central Foundry Division ID and means nothing more.

Thanks guys. I'm going to have really look around for that axle ratio - it's not jumping out at me.

Hey Napoleon,
Just noticed your thread here. Excellent work figuring out the rear end info. Nice to know it's the correct one for the car. Kind of wish I'd bought the whole car off you and tucked it away, but you probably wish you'd had room to keep it yourself. Hope you find someone who needs a nice solid boxed 65 Vista frame before it goes to the crusher, or has that ship sailed?
Chow mein, Brother.
