That's what they look like to me too. They bolt inside the trailing edge (just foward of the hood hinge down to the lower part) of the front fenders to reinforce them.

I can't tell how long they are but if they are real long, I think there the engine bay braces that are used on like a Vista Cruiser, or if the are short they look like the front bumper braces.

I'm pretty sure they are not from a '70-'72 car or I would have seen a pair of them by now, so I'm guessing from a mid to late '60's car. You say they are very rare, very very rare, so I'm thinking maybe brackets for scoops on a '66 or '67 W30, or '68'-69 under bumper W30 scoops, or maybe trunk mounted battery brackets off of a '66 or '67 W30?

I'd go with the front bumper brackets idea. But scale would matter, how long are they?

The rear fender braces are curved, these guys are straight. If they're long I go with the core support from a Vista Cruiser. If short the bumper supports. BUT... it looks like they've got undercoating on them. So that's back to the undercarriage somewhere. John

it looks like the part of the front bumper bracket that runs from the main bracket on the frame to the middle of the bumper above the front tag.

They look very similar to the front fender braces used on my old Pinto.... Wonder how much the lengths differ?

I don't know what they are, but they aren't from a 66-7 W30!

Im thinking you are correct along with. Sorry, thought the post replies would come back to my personal email, didnt know I had pintos and such an active website, Im new.
Droldsmurphy and Morland, I think you guys know your stuff, Im hoping anyway...Ok, I had a 1970 W-30 about 20 years ago. I thought I took these off the rear of the fenders that bolted somewhere onto either the frame or firewall, cant remember, to the fender. Just found them in my cupboard in the garage when cleaning it out as I could see them in the back. I had the fenders off and when I put them back on, I didnt see them and forgot they went on.. Wish I wouldnt have sold that car, bench seat option 53 4 speed silver. Oh the things we did. Wow, Ill need to watch this forum(s)

The rear of the front fenders - now I remember. There was a thread about these things not long ago!

Maybe we should have a weekly "guess what this part is" game here just for fun...

No Stranegly I beleive the big block converts dont have them? You'd think they'd get them first. Not sure if a 455 or SX Cutlass would have them as Ive never thought to look at one of the few for that detail. Terry D. will know the answer to that one

from the 1970 assembly manual all 455s got them EXCEPT convertibles - which needed them most - thus I put a pair on mine anyway.

Edit, though the ones pictured by OP are not curved like I thought they are
