If you are talking about swapping the guts from the 8.5 into the 8.2,no you can not.

What car do you have?

The 72 Cutlass axle I used on my old 66 was the same width as the 8.2 I pulled out. If you want to run a 8.5 thats what you need. I leafspring rear will not work because there is no upper control arm mounts.

I found another complete 10 bolt 3.73 rear from a 73 with aftermarket links, springs, etc. Whats the difference in the earlier 8.2?

73-77 will not interchange with a 64-72

All of it. Control arm points, spring location its all redesigned in 73. There are way too many 68-72 A-body rear axles around than to try to custom mount a 73-77 axle.

PS you sure the axle you are looking at is from a 73? There are very few companies that make anything aftermarket for a 73-77 a-body
