71-81 trans am rear end in 1971 cutlass?

Hi, I'm looking to put some lower gears in my 1971 cutlass with the GM corporate 10 bolt and it's cheaper to buy a whole axle than to swap the gears. So I have found several axles from trans ams, would they bolt right in I heard it's the same corporate 10 bolt? Thanks

Keep in mind that the t/a Camaro rear end has leaf spring mounts not coil and control arm like your car, but the carrier and gears may work.
Someone on here will know about axle length.

As noted, the 1970-81 F-body used a leaf spring rear suspension. There are no provisions on the housing to attach the control arms or coil springs for the Cutlass rear suspension. Only the carrier and gears are usable.

Ok I was under the misconception that it was the whole housing would exchange but its probably just the internals. What other cars could I look at to get a axle that would bolt in?

Start with 1968-72 GM A bodies.

You have a very desirable rear being the 10 bolt 8.5 was only in 2 years 1971 1972. JUST tighten the belt spend the money on the GOOD 71 72 10 bolt 8.5 rear.

ALL other 10 bolt and 12 bolts in the 1965-1972 era will require you to do drive shaft mods.

camaro rears

The guts from the Camaro will bolt into your housing NOT the complete axle assemble housing. Axle shafts are also NOT compatible .
