Rear End Interchange 1971 to 1969
Rear End Interchange 1971 to 1969
Hey all
I've been contacted by a guy looking for a rear end for a 1969 Pontiac full sized car. Can anybody tell me if one from a 1971 Delta 88 would interchange? John

I checked here http://www.car-part.com/index.htm and it looks like the '71 rear will only fit '71-'76. You didn't give the type of Pontiac so I could'nt look that up. JKaz
Thank you JKaz
I don't know what model of Poncho it is, only that it's a full sized. But it is interesting how the A-body cars will bolt in even though they're different. but many of the full sized won't. Thanks for your help! John

There are several issues here. There's the obvious width of the axle (flange to flange). Then there's the attach points for the suspension arms and springs. The compliance of the rubber bushings will sometimes allow one to force the arms into place (the G-body crowd has been doing this with the A-body axles) but the result is always binding in the suspension and either ill handling or broken parts. The 65-70 full size cars use different frames than the 71-76 cars, and the axles are different.
