I have a stock rear end housing in my 65 cutlass with an eaton posi unit and richman 355 ring and pinon, will a 65 oldsmobile cutlass 308 ring and pinon bolt up to the eaton ? and or a 65 buick gs 293 open bolt up to my eaton am trying to make the car for long road trips and the 355 has the engine pulling about 3000 r's at 65 mph

gears and series carriers

2.56-2.78 2 series carrier
2.93 3.08 3.23 3 series
3.36 3.55 3.73 3.90 4.10 4.33 and beyond 4 series

You can take a 2 or a 3 series and step up to a steeper gear BUT you can not go backwards on the carriers if you have a eaton that is a 3.36 and steeper 4 series unit and you can only use the 3.36 3.55 3.73 3.90 etc.

YIU can do a 3.08 from a chevy 8.2 on the eaton and then you will also need a sleeve kit for the chevy yoke because the chevy gears are 25 spline yoke where as the pontiac pinion is 27 spline.

I sell the sleeve kit if you need and the rest but that is up to you. Hope I did not depress you with the info but that is the deal. Jim

I'm with Richard on this one.....

But if you do decide to change,

Jim, would the guts from a 1965 Buick GS 2.93 posi fit in his housing?

1965Cutty, shipping the whole rear end would be a killer for costs, but if the internals would interchange maybe we could swap those? In another thread you mentioned you'd be willing to trade the 3.55 gears for highway gears. I've got a 1965 442 project car that's a 4 speed. I don't know what the gears are in its housing but I know it's not a posi. John
