help with 77 cutlass egr

I put on a edelbrock carbuerator today, and come to find out the egr valve is blocking the throttle from going all the way back. Directions said egr adapter may be needed. So when and bout the part number it said to and it didn't fit my 350. Anyone no a egr adapter that will fit a stock 350. If not second option will be to take out the egr valve and put a plate on it. What will be the effects of removing my egr. I hear people do it to old cars a lot

The effects of removing an EGR on a car that old will make it take longer to warm up in the cold weather, but it will give you a slight, very slight increase in power

So removing the egr will give me slight power effect.. car taking longer to warm isn't to bad? So all in all it won't really affect me ?

No not really, Just make sure there is no tubing from the cat to the EGR or anything where you're going to have "open exhaust" by doing this. It's been a while since I've been under the hood of an Olds Block, with the emissions. Usually the EGR has a tube running from the ERG itself to the cat. An exhaust shop can weld that tube on the cat closed for probably $20, but they will only take cash!!!

If the exhaust is "open" you'll hear a ticking when the car is running, It's not a valve tap, but it sounds like it.

My Alero has an exhasut leak right now, it's driving me nuts

Sorry, but EGR has nothing to do with the car warming up. It does dilute the mixture at part throttle conditions to reduce NOx emissions. EGR is not active at wide open throttle so you will not see any performance change.

Okay I'm not to concerned about any boost in performance... I just want to make sure there are no negatives that's going to majorly effect me

Car will fail emissions, but that's all I can think of.

Removal of an EGR in a newer car, like my Alero, will HURT performance and lower the MPG because of the car's computer
