Want Some Info-Decode my VIN

Hey all. I currently have a 1971 Cutlass Supreme. I know mostly what all my vehicle entails, but wanted to get a little more information on her straight out of the factory. Her VIN number is 342571Z108850. I've been trying to decode it myself, but I'm finding it may be easier to ask you experienced professionals Never realized the difference in the 1970 350 compared to the 1971 350. Kind of disappointing, but oh well I guess. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you. -Eric

71-34257 - 1971 Cutlass Supreme 2-door hardtop; Z = Fremont, CA assembly plant; 03126 is body unit number

01D - built fourth week of January 1971
61 - Sandalwood paint; B - black vinyl top
If I'm squinting hard enough, it looks like a TR 980 interior trim code. That's a black cloth interior and almost certainly a bench seat with center armrest.
B80 is exterior drip scalp moldings

The rest (077225, 600126) are extra codes that I only have seen on tags for Fremont-built cars, including my '72 442.

33687 - Cutlass S 2 door hardtop
Z - Fremont, CA assembly plant; then the body unit number

06B - Built the 2nd week of June 1972 - a fairly late car for that model year
57 57 - Baroque Gold paint with Baroque Gold painted top
954 - Covert Gold cloth interior
A52 - Conventional Bench Seat

304190 and 050534 are more of the random Fremont numbers that I mentioned. Could be shift codes or any number of things...

This is fun. Here we go:

69 = model year = 1969

3 = GM division = Oldsmobile

36 = model series = Cutlass V8

87 = body type = Holiday coupe

LAN = assembly plant = Lansing, MI

359529 = plant body number (for internal plant use)

930 = trim number (interior color & front seat type) = black strato bucket seats

50 50 = lower and upper body colors, respectively = cameo white with a cameo white painted top

04D = time build code = the 4th month of the year (April), and the 4th week of that month (D) = the week that begins on either Monday, April 21 or Monday, April 28, 1969, depending upon how the factory labeled those weeks

Hope this helps!

It's quite possible the car was a leftover and didn't sell until late. I once came across a '69 Cutlass Supreme 4-door that also didn't sell until late '69, so it happens. As far as trim tags identifying a car as a 4-4-2, that didn't happen until 1969 as I recall, even though 4-4-2 became its own model at the beginning of the '68 production year. My brother and I both have '68 442s (both Lansing cars, his is late-October 1967 production and mine is early-April 1968 production) and both are identified in their VINs as a 4-4-2 but the trim tags show both as a Cutlass V8 (code 36). I also have a '69 4-4-2 (Fremont car, mid-May 1969 production) and both the VIN and the trim tag show it as a 4-4-2 (code 44). 4-4-2 had its own production from the 1968 thru the 1971 production years; before and after that the 4-4-2 was an F85 or Cutlass option.

That anomaly continued through 1969. Safe to say all the way through, as my Lansing built '69 was that way and was built the first week of July, '69.
I believe this was only with the Lansing 442s.

Hey thanks Terry, that's some surprising info! When I bought this car about 13yrs ago, it had a white/off-white vinyl top on it that has deteriorated over the years, and I was unsure whether to go back with one or leave it a hardtop. And the interior had been changed to match the top(white cloth)! Since its not as original as I thought, this opens up many possibilities.
