2 sp

I also found some factory markings on the firewall and inside the hood
I will share with you guys when
I am allow to post pictures .
The car is an absolute virgin in storage since 1978.
Got her running 24 hrs after getting her home for the first time in 31 years.
It's amazing, how smooth it idles after all that time
I was wondering if someone could decode the data plate for me.

My orig plan (Please don't Flame me)
was to drop in a 468 Big Block Chevy on spray and Super T-10
I pulled out of my 55 Chevy.
I was just going to paint it and keep it stock looking except for
widened stock rims in the back, dog dishes and big meats (sleeper)

I bought the car assuming it wouldn't run.
Now that it purrs like a kitten I really don't want to
pop this virgins cherry.

If I can get the paint to be presentable I am going to put on some dog dish hubcaps and just enjoy it as a surviver
(anybody selling hubcaps ?)

Sounds like a twin to what I started with. Had original plans to mini tub with 345s but did not have the heart to cut it up. I did cut my floor for transmission clearance though.

Yes, it would be a shame to modify any car that is that original, as in good a condition, and with complete documentation. There are plenty of cars (Olds inclusive) that are better suited for modification.
This car beggs to be kept as original as possible! I'm pleased to see that makes an impression with you!

Dan,
I will drive it and enjoy it...for now,
I still want a 2nd hot rod so I don't have to drive the Chevelle so much.
It's just worth too much for me to beat on it.
That is the whole reason I bought this car.
I had a Blue 67 Cutlass conv with a 454 back in the early 80's.
And a 67 442 Gold w/Black hardtop..
this is like a combo of my two childhood cars

Here is a pic of the 39,000 mile all orig LS-6 car
I know this is a diehard Olds crowd,
(again PLEASE don't flame me,I mean no disrespect)
but I'm sure most of you can appreciate this car too,
as I appreciate all Musclecars.

Rich ,
I didn't want to tub the car ,just fill out the wheelwells.
It looks as if a 9 or 10" custom rim will fit with the right offset.
Has anyone done this ?
What Trans are you running ?

You can see the long version in the link below but trans is a TKO600 5 speed and wheels are 18 x 10 rear and 18 x 9 front. If I did it again front would be 8.5" On a super hard lock to lock turn the inner wheel touches the control arm. If you don't plan to go low there is a lot of backspace range you can get away with. If you want a super low car like me. You better measure 3 times and order once. With a 285-40-18 rear tire if I was off even a 1/4" in the rear I would rub.

So Rich,

1 ) If I wanted to go stock ride height, wide in rear only,
What offset would you reccomend for SAFELY (no rubbing) the widest tire ?

2) Who do you reccomend I start buying parts from.
Right now I need a new water pump,some T-3 lights,hoses,
stock clamps and springs ?

3) I want to go with a 6 blade clutch fan
while I'm doing the water pump,
OPG has pt #ch25854 (fan) and #fc48 (clutch short) OR
fc57 (clutch long)
is it a direct fit ?
Do I get long or short ?

Thanx,
Matt

P.S. I looked at the long version...UNREAL !!!!!!!!

I'm still learning olds specific stuff so I will let another expert answer the water pump stuff. Beautiful 70 you have. I have been a Chevelle long before the Olds was in my possesion.

My BS on the rear is 6.625" but a stock height car I bet 5-5.5" range with a 10" wheel and 275-60-15 would work out nice. Just measure to be sure.

Others might disagree on OPG but my best luck has been with OPG and Fusicks for my restoration parts. I've dabbled with a little of all of them. I won't buy from Parts Place again. I don't have time to keep sending wrong parts back.

Squirell: Please keep this car original !. At car shows the biggest hits are the 100% unrestored original cars. Its rare to find a car like yours that has not been messed with and can still be driven. I always remember a Corvette show in Bowling Green Ky at the Corvette meuseum- the car most people were looking at was worn out barn find original '58 F.I. Corvette. It was parked next to the $100,000.00 Vettes but guess which one the crowd liked. Wish I had your Cutlass.

Squirell, this car was originally purchased in my back yard. How did you come upon it, if I may ask. Doesn't look like it stayed in the Chicago area for to long. Craigslist, Ebay, what ya give for it. Nice ride!

My buddy Mike found it on Craigs list, with no picture or phone #.
I assume that's why nobody snatched it up before me.
I usually don't bother if there's no picture,
but the description (milage) was too good not to e-mail.
The guy said some locals looked at the car,but being that the engine was "apart" they wern't interested.

The Story is the guy I bought it from got the car in 1978
from the orig elderly owners.
He took the carb and hoses off to paint the block,he was in his mid 30's at the time.
He ordered all kinds of J.C Whitney crap and was going to "show" the car.
Soon after buying the car he moved to Mass from Ill and had the car shipped. The car was indoors all this time.

POOF... 31 yrs later ,he's 65 years old and never touched the car,
and figures he never will.
The Ill Plates from 1978 are still on the car.

Let's just say I bought the car right assuming the car wouldn't run,
and would probably need paint too.
We didn't even discover the paperwork until we got home.
I never looked in the glove box until we got home.
I still hope to find the build sheet under the back seat or in the
D.S door panel.
I already know it's not in the PS door cause I had it off to
pop the big dent out.

I am going to start cleaning it up tommorow (paint and interior)
and will post pics on the progress

I have run across a few people wanting to put a chebby in an OLDS. I tell them that is the cheap way out, anybody can do that , I say you can get everything you need at "Wall Mart" and they get the undies in a twist. I talk to this one guy about a grill for my Cutlass and he told me he had a '68 442 convert and was going to put a 454 in it. I told him what I thought and he said it was still "GM".
So a little later in the conversation I said I know of a '63 split window vette with no engine and trans, he said what a find how is the condition. I told him it was great, just been in the garage for a number of years. I'm going to put a 455 OLDS and 3 speed trans. He just about blew a cork, it was great, I laugh all the way home.

LOL,
That's funny.
I'll take some picks of my buddys 67 chevelle SS 396, all orig paint,4 sp
with a 455 PONT Tri-power.
Car has been that way since 1973.
I acually think it's pretty cool.
People freak when he pops the hood.

The only reason I was contemplating this was because My engine and trans are brand new and just laying around.

Just courious,
Would you guys dislike it if I took this SURVIVOR and swapped out a 455 olds, 4 speed on juice ?

Like I said before, the car is such a virgin and even a referance car...I may not mess with it at all.
I don't think I even want to "detail" (paint and plate) the engine compartment.
Which is a total 180 from my orig plan.

It's not that I'm "Mr Chevy",
My goal was to build a quick conv cruiser and THAT just happens to be the drivetrain I have.

That car is so clean, it would be a shame to tear it up. You should find an old beater chevy and put your drive train in it. The vert is a great cruiser and chick magnet. With the beater you can beat on it and not have a worry.
