Question 72 Olds A-body oil fill decal red or black?

Inline Tube catalogue says:
"Although the assembly manual calls out a red decal, we have NEVER found a red decal on original cars, we have only seen black with 2 letter code and part numbers.”

Fusick catalogue says:
"decal has red lettering on a white background as original"

The lousy search functionality of the site didn't give me any good insight when I searched - so I posted this thread.

The site, however, did just now give me a "related post" at the bottom of this that seems to indicate that the correct answer is BLACK

X2 black I know for 1969. But you can't take everything that Inline says as 100% true.

Back before I found Inline Tube I found a guy named Ken Krause who researched and produced these oil tube decals. He had them for the various years and all the codes were verified. I used his product on my car and am really happy with it. Before that I had one of the red Fusick "correct" red ones that somehow always looked wrong.

So where can these be purchased now? I checked Inline Tube, and I only see engine compartment decal sets for $45, which is pretty pricey just to get that one decal.

Fusick's are red, so I don't want that.
Supercars Unlimited can't even get their descriptions for the years and options correct, and doesn't list the color.

Those are my 3 most reliable go-to sources, and it seems none of them have what I want. Does anybody have another source for these?

So if black is correct, why would anyone want to produce red labels and call it correct. Where did this come from? Were they red for some years and black for others?
