What did the stock exhaust look like on a 67

So I've got my 1967 Cutlass, and it has duals. I've seen people do all kinds of things, out the back sides, straight out the back, out the back and down, out the back and hidden from view... what was the stock "look"? I don't love the current look that mine has - and am looking to put it back to stock (whatever that may be hah).

If you have a copy of the 1967 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual, look on page 8-9, figure 8-17. It shows the original exhaust arrangement for the 38 series.

I do have that! Man this is like the second thing someone has told me to find in there, and it was the first thing I bought after I had the car home lol.

Well, let's start with what's not correct (which is most of the cars you'll see on line).

The tailpipes on non-442s (both single and dual exhaust) had downturns that ended under the bumper. You can barely see them in these photos. They were intended to be inconspicuous.

Nice to see the pics Joe! I had suspected they were supposed to be inconspicuous.
I don't know what it is but I've also had a 1988 Chev Z-24 Convertible where I think they had put on a Beretta muffler and so I had tail pipes hanging way down, ended up cutting them off shorter. Like this car, long ended exhaust tips.. I don't need everyone to see its dual, I'm fine knowing it is. Trailer hitch will go too making for a cleaner rear-end!

Another vote for hidden exhaust unless of course, it has the 442 cutouts. Even those can be installed wrong, too short or long.

The repro chambered tailpipes I took off have slash/angled tips with a stainless beauty ring crimped on. A guy on ROP is looking for a set, and my quick Google search only netted Gardner. I am pretty sure my dad got these from Fusick or Year One; need to do some digging.
