Please be more specific as there are a number of different ones used and attach differently.

Doors?
Roof rail?
Deck lid?

some have clips and holes in the sheet metal to accept the clips, and some have to be glued in.

Appears to be roof rail. This wire is embedded in the rubber. Remove it and the rest of the rubber there...

It's a reinforcement wire for the weather strip. The new strip is glued in, I use the black weather strip cement, comes in a tube by 3M. It's a contact type cement that you put a thin coat on both the weather strip and in the roof rail channel, let it skin over and then bond the strip to the channel.

Go by a parts store specializing in paint & body supplies and get a spray can of 3M weatherstrip release agent, and a can of wax and grease remover. Then go by Harbor Freight and get a set of plastic scrapers like these, Pittsburgh Tools item#95832,

$10.99.

The release agent and scrapers will get the remaining old rubber and adhesive out of the channels and the wax remover will clean the surface so new adhesive and weatherstip will stick. You can also use the scrapers to push the new weatherstrip into its retaining channel. Doesn't hurt to test fit the stuff first without any adhesive.

Good luck!

In lieu of the tools above, popsicle sticks cut with a chisel end and pieces cut from a scrap CD make good scrapers. They will be easy on the paint.

Trouble with that is if I have popsicle sticks it means I'm eating popsicles, and I know I need to leave them alone! Whereas I won't try to eat the HF plastic scrapers...
