W-31 articles and other information

I found a couple of readable W-31 articles. Of course the Hemmings is pretty great. The second one is slightly annoying but still cool. Share your links to W-31 Ram Rod stuff (resist linking back to Classic Oldsmobile if you can).

Good stuff Orlando, both are interesting reads.

As usual with many a car write up, some mistakes pop up. In this case they both have the same mistake, Ram Rod/W31s factory rating is 360 lb ft not 390. http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe...od_350_1-2.pdf

Performance on the other hand is dead on. Hot Rod wrung the hell out of this engine back in 1968. The Hemmings article matches performance with headers and slicks.

Hemmings stock --- quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds.
Hot Rod stock with headers--------- 14.0 @ 98.90 MPH
Hemmings headers and slicks------ 13.5 @ 103.45 MPH
Hot Rod open headers, slicks------- 13.6 @ 103.21 MPH

Then Hot Rod pushed it further with bigger slicks a tweaked carb and 4.66 rear gear.
-------------------------------------- 13.20 @ 105.75 MPH

Interesting articles. But... Just what does the "S" stand for? Anything specific?

If you wondering what “S” presents, it stands for “Sport”,
Uh, no, it stands for "S". It's just a made up marketing name.

If the car has a red interior, it stand for "Sassy". If it is black w/ a red interior, or red with a black interior, it stands for "Sexy".
