Trunk Trim Piece for '68 Cutlass- need length measured

Hi Guys,
I'm going to look at a trunk trim piece later this week and need to make sure I'm getting the right part. I'm talking about the long thin OLDSMOBILE script that hangs on the back lip of the trunk- just above the bumper line.

I have a '68 442 Convertible- I know the convertible trunk trim is different than the hard top. Many people think the parts are interchangeable....I dont want to get stuffed with the wrong piece.

Any chance someone could measure the length of the hardtop or convertible piece- this will tell me if I'm looking at the right part. Just need the horizontal length right to left.

Thanks very much.

Mike

Look at the backside of the trim.
The Longer one has a line where it is to be cut to make the shorter one.
If the line is not there, it already is the shorter one.

However, my feeble memory fails to tel me which is the longer type, therefore which you need.

If you get length #'s I will add them to the PN database for occasions like this.

looks to be 60 inches to the line for a convertible. Trim pictured is from a 68 442 sports coupe...

Wow- great information and quick turn around. Thanks to all.

So....is it correct to assume I could use a hardtop trim piece and cut it to fit? Wonder if the studs would be placed correctly?
If so- this is news to me...I've been thinking the parts were completely different for the past 10 years.

Thanks again.

Just measured the one on my 'vert. It is 60" long.

Stud distances (not exact, but close) from left 1-3/8" 10", 19", 28", 32", 41", 50", 58-5/8".

I believe they cut the piece and then chromed it so the ends won't be correctly chromed if you cut a hardtop one. I would imagine the studs are the same but it's been years since I had two of them together to see

Roughly the same stud distances on the longer coupe trunk trim...

Makes sense if it's the exact same piece, but with ends not cut off.

Went to look at one locally- all studs busted off and bent.....no thanks.

Anybody have one of these they want to sell? Looking for good to excellent condition.

Thanks again for all the help.
