Original color and vinyl roof?
Original color and vinyl roof?
On my build sheet for my 69 Cutlass Supreme Holiday Coupe, in block 44 Color, it shows the following:
LW UP ST W
63 61 ------ 10
I know the 63 is Palomino Gold and the 61 is Sable and 10 is ebony black. I'm guessing the LW is Lower, the UP is Upper, the ST is striping but what is the W. Did they do a two tone paint scheme or would the UP (upper color) be the vinyl top?
I was told my the PO that it wasn't a vinyl top car, however I'm finding that a lot of things they told me about the car is wrong.
Thanks for your help,
Scott

These are the best I could do, really awkward place to get a camera in.

Diego,
I'm sure it was a two-tone car I was just wondering if two-tone automatically meant vinyl top? I don't think I can recall ever seeing an A body Cutlass with the upper body and the lower body different colors without a vinyl roof.
The car was given a low budget paint job sometime in it's life, it's starting to flake off in a couple of places. You can see the original color in these places and it looks like it could have been a very light gold or yellow. The door jams are the light gold/yellow. Unfortunately most of the original interior is gone. The front seat was replaced with some aftermarket buckets and the rear seat was taken out and a carpeted shelf built in it's place. (The P/O used a wheel chair and carried it back there)
The padded part of the dash and instrument area is gold and the lower valance is black.
Thanks,
Scott

If the 10 you're referring to is the "10A" on the left in this photo, that's the build date, which would be first week of October 1968.

I don't know what the 984 decodes as nor the 63, which would be the lower body paint color. 61 would be the upper body color and decodes as "Sable."
The B80 indicates a roof drip molding accessory. BF indicates built at Fremont, California. I don't think the two big numbers to the right of the 10A decode as anything.

Sorry, I meant they made two-tone painted cars. And forgot that the data plate for a vinyl top car would have a letter instead of a number for the upper body color.
I agree, go original, sounds like a great color combo.

Here is a complete breakdown of your trim tag.
ST 69 = style/model year = 1969
34287:
3 = GM division = Oldsmobile
42 = model series = Cutlass Supreme
87 = body type = holiday coupe (2-door hardtop)
BF = assembly plant = Fremont, CA
00893 BDY = Fisher body number (no relationship to the VIN)
TR 984 = interior color and front seat type = gold interior (cloth & vinyl) with a notch-bench seat in front
63 61 PNT = lower (63) body color and upper (61) body color = palomino gold (63) for the lower body color and sable (61) for the upper body color This car was originally a 2-tone car without a vinyl roof...if it had a vinyl roof, the figure where "61" is would have been a single letter
10A = time build code = October (10), first week of that month (A), 1968
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pic guys they really help a lot.
Sam,
Nice looking car, the gold accent strip looks good with the Sable paint.
Jon,
The Topaz and the Sable vinyl top look good. I'm just not sure how the gold (palomino or topaz) would look with the Sable top in a glossy paint, the flat finish of the vinyl really sets off the lower part of the car. I'm leaning toward a vinyl top anyway and seeing yours may convince me to go with the original colors but with the top in vinyl.

Hawghead,
Thanks for the compliment. I don't have any pictures of Palamino and Sable paint, but at least you now have somewhat of an idea of what it would look like. I think Palamino Gold is slightly more Gold than Topaz is.
Here are a couple pictures of 2 '69's mine and my buddy's. Not sure exactly what color his is being a Canadian built and repainted, but just shows you the difference in 2 cars. Happy motoring!

Jon,
Nice pair of Cutlasses? Cutlassie?
anyway nice cars.
Diego, you may be right (I may be crazzzy but it just may be a lunatic your looking for.....) sorry, and as olds88 pointed out, I can always put a vinyl top on it if I don't like it.
Thanks,
Scott
