Need kick down for our 66 cutlass
Need kick down for our 66 cutlass
Hi Folks::We have a 66 olds cutlass convertable which has a 2-speed automatic. On the linkage between the firewall and the carb. there is a round shaped electrical device which is defective. It has no internal parts. I have been told it is my transmission kickdown control. I need to find where I can get a replacement unit. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. My E-mail add is ugotalott@aol.com. We have had the car since 1993 and have never had the passing gear work, it sure would be nice.
Thanks EVER SO MUCH
Nate Lott
It controls both downshift and switch-pitch converter. To my knowledge it is not reproduced, so it will be either hunt down an NOS part or hope you get lucky with a junkyard piece. I'll have to double check my parts book to make sure, but I believe all 65-7 cars use the same switch.
Just for grins, get some tuner contact cleaner (Radio Shack should have it) and spray up in the switch. Contacts may be dirty. You've already checked it with an ohmmeter?
There's also some adjustment for this switch that's covered in the chassis service manual.

Welcome to the site,
Bruce Roe: bcroe@juno.com makes a replacement for the TH400 "Switch Pitch". Should work for an ST-300.
