71Viking Blue

When I bought my 71 Cutlass Supreme in 1984, the owner had the original sticker to go with the car. I filed it away and have not looked at in awhile. This afternoon I am looking at it and the first line says PAINT STRIPE, BODY SIDE. The car has been repainted in the original Viking Blue but the stripe was not repainted. I found a picture of a car that looks similar to mine. If the stripe had been put back when it was repainted would it look like this or were there any other stripe options and/or location where it was put such as what is on a 442?

Tim, the third picture would not be correct for a supreme. I seen a bunch of the picture 1 and 2 style.

The third photo would not be correct for ANY A-body Olds except a W-30 convert. Unfortunately, as with W-36 stripes on 68s, stripe abuse on the 70-72 cars runs rampant now.

If you ordered the W-25 hood, you did get the wide stripes on the hood, but not the wide side stripes. You also didn't get a "W" emblem the way that third car does, either...

Appreciate the reply and information. I am not ready for a restoration or repaint but good to know when I do. I kinda lean towards not having the stripe at all. I love the Viking Blue color as is.


Not that I would ever part with my supreme which is my first car I bought with my own money but I dream of having an original 1970 W-30. I truly envy all those on this forum who have one. Love them. Beautiful, beautiful cars.

The upper body side stripe on a Supreme (or Cutlass convertible) is option Y70 [408492]; on a Cutlass, its option Y75 [408449]. W30's had a wide lower body side stripe [406787] and 442's could have a narrower lower body side stripe [409218].
