Learned to put the boot on

I've never use the boot. I thought I was missing clips and snaps. I went to buy clips locally and they explained how it went on. I can't believe that's how it was engineered.

It should have tabs that slip under the radiused portion of the well molding too?
I like the clean look when it's on, no unsightly snaps showing when it's off.

It does, but I just never thought that was how was installed. There is a guy that lives near me that has a 68 Buick convertible. Not an A body though. His top has snaps all the way around. Sliding it under the moulding just didn't feel right to me. Instinct told me that's how went on.... but I didn't trust them. Too bad it took me two years to find it out.

Sometimes hard to get those radiused corners to stay put, at least on my 69 years ago.

When I was redoing it back in the 80's, it was common for the aftermarket to sell replacement boots that came with snaps, and a template for drilling the stainless molding to match. I've seen a lot of trim ruined like that over the years! I was lucky and found my car's original boot--under the backseat.

Mine has the nylon tabs that slip under the radiused curve on each side, as well as the straighter sides. It seems the driver side always lifts at the curve - it doesn't come all the way out, but it's definitely a snug fit. Even in the picture, you can see where it has kind of curled up on the driver side.

My original boot has nylon clips that snap into position and they never pulled away like the nylon tabs. I think those nylon clips are still available, but I don't know who has them.
