5 years restoration done.. pictures inside :)

Just found this forum.. and i really like it.
thought i would share my car with you guys.

Don't be mad at me.. my car is an original W-31.. but where i am from.. (Israel) a 442 is worth more than a cutlass.. just because of it's name..
Like a GTO is worth more than a LeMans..

So i did what i did.. it's reversable though.. so i'm fine with it.

Bought the car back in 2005, drove it home and started taking it apart..
I had a 72 Chevelle, and sold it after i bought the Olds.
This is the ONLY 1970 Olds in Israel. Self-imported back in August of 1970..
Original paint was sherwood green with a white painted top (48 10)
Disc brakes - no booster, no A/C, Rally pack gauges (with a 200kph original speed) but.. it did have original power windows.. which i think is very cool..

Engine is the original number matching block, but... i've overbored it to 4.125 bore and put sbc rods in it, edelbrock heads (got the #6 heads in storage), custom pistons (engine is turbocharged ready.. going with a t76 super on it.. bolting it on soon )

You can check out short videos i made of the frame off.. they are on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha127VqhIOU (Frame off and restoration)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tgs_FOsbMc0 (Paint)

And here is the car today.. (i need to lower it a little bit.. )

So... What do you guys think?

Vey nice! I really like the two tone. I bet it already is fun to drive, a turbo should make it scary.

Very nice - it's really gotta be a standout there!
Hope it doesn't bring a new meaning to 'Rockets Red glare'!

Have you given any consideration to aftermarket 4 bolt mains?
Hate to see a turbo blow the bottom end out of the numbers matching motor!
You might check with Rocket Racing in Wisconsin - they've both a strap setup and the 4-bolt mains, but I believe they both require machining!
Good luck!

Welcome, and you have a stunning ride.

Please do not grenade the original engine, that would be a sin.

Peace

so what did you finnaly wind up doing for seats after your others were wrecked in the fire?

The car turned out really nice. I remember back when you first posted about it over on TC.

Welcome and Cool car. Probably the rarest car I have ever seen used for a 442 clone. I checked out your videos and I was wondering if you could share some more details on the electric power steering you installed? Did you use mr2 parts?

Very nice car! And welcome aboard!!

I was lucky enough to visit Isreal earlier this year. I had a wonderful experience while there. I got to go to Jerusalem, Nazareth, Tel Aviv and Nir David. I stayed at Mismar Ha' Emek while there. It was a great trip.

Thanks for all the kind words guys appreciate it.

As for some of the questions that people asked here..
The electric power steering pump is off a renault pickup.. you guys don't have that in the states. really is a great combo.. has an internal regulator and it only builds high pressure when you need it (turning the wheel or brake in my case.. because i have hydro-boost brakes)

As for the seats.. I still don't have the correct seats.. i took the seats i have now off of my friend's 68 GTO that he put racing seats in.. so i took his buckets..
For those of you (most) that don't know.. a year and a half ago, the same day i got the car out of the paint shop.. my storage place where i put ALL of the interior was burnt to the ground.. All my original interior was trash.. luckly enough i had all the rest of the stuff in a different storage place.. and the only leftover i have from the original interior is the gauges, and console..
here is a picture of my seats after the fire

as for my engine.. didn't do anything to the bottom end except replacing the bolts with studs at the mains.. I am going to turbocharge it, but want it at 5-6psi.. it would be around 650hp.. which i don't think i would need to do anything for the bottom end.. or am i wrong? reliable and fast.. right now i am at 8.5:1CR..
I have a 4.68 rear end.. so it's a blast to drive Oh.. i forgot to add.. It has a t-56 in it.. so the 4.68 is not such a big problem.. i cruise at 60mph on around 2000rpms..

as for the last question about the 55 sedan delivery.. what about it?
Its a nice car.. belong to a friend.. originally a 6 banger, and we put a 70's SBC in it..
Other than that.. pretty much stock.

Since you know the guys at Rocket, see if they can send you a 'beefed-up' block and internals for your turbocharged idea!
Non numbers matching W-31's are worth a whole lot less than original - I kinda 'hold my breath' when destructive add-ons are mentioned on original blocks!
I'd say the same about nitrous, too!

I was under the impression that the stock 350 engine can hold 650hp without any damage.. am i wrong?

I mean.. internally, other than the main caps.. everything is beefed up.. main caps are original, but i've changed from bolts, to ARP studs..

Yes, 650 you should be fine, but technically, it's torque is where you worry once you go beyond a certain point.

Cap walk can be an issue in big-number builds, so cap material is one concern. Aftermarket caps are good insurance, as are the halo braces. Studs help, and a must in my opinion. Only other thing that can be done is hard block, but certainly don't need that for 650. Oil temps become an issue when filling the block by the way.

Head gasket sealing at high cyl pressures, like under boost is a concern too, and you'll most likely reach an issue there before you run into block problems.

Nice car, and I'm sure it wasn't easy pulling that off where you live! Hats off to you! And post pics once you get the turbo on there~!
