Date coding on SS wheels

Hello, I have an '87 Cutlass Supreme to which the original owner added 14x7 SS wheels w/bolt on center caps. I believe this style wheel was used from '70 to '72. Can you tell me if there is a date code on the wheels somewhere so I can determine the exact year for these wheels. Thanks, Michael

Here's one source that some people like while some do not, because as Joe so accurately points out below. "Some of the information is incorrect" and quickly noticeable by a true Olds erudite.

To me it's a might confusing

It's not that people do not like it, it is the fact that some of the info is incorrect. My 14x6 1968 SSII rims came with chrome bezels, despite info on that page to the contrary, as one example.

Thanks, Jamesbro. This helps. I can at least narrow it down to an SSIII wheel in the years of either '71 or '72. Next time one of the tires is off, I'll look inside the rim for a date code stamping.

Why is this info even still out there? I've been hearing about this for years and nothings done about it by the powers that be so the bad info just snowballs.

Who are "The powers that be?"

I guess the question is do you throw out the baby with the bath water.

It has been said many times that the FAQ of 442.com has errors in it. I don't know them of course, but isn't some good information with some flaws better than no information.

Or I quess we could hope for a perfect source.

IMHO, It's a never ending process of gathering information, weighing it, weeding some out and going on down the road.

In this thread the gentleman is seeking information about 70-72 14X7 SS wheels. The fact that Joe pointed out an error about 68 SS II 14X6 wheels didn't seem to harm the questioner.

I REALLY don't want to get into a "NORM" here. I just do not know all of the answers and am glad when someone is tring to help. If they make a mistake, I try not to slit my wrist over it.

For those of you that don't know, the Olds FAQs have been copied to a "wiki" type site that allows for additions and changes.
I just posted a new thread under "General Discussions" about it.
