I don't know who makes the tops that Brothers sells, and I would find out before I buy. I went direct to Kee Tops for my '68 GTO top, and I couldn't be happier.

Their catalog states the following;

Our Convertible Tops are made by the Original Equipment Manufacturer for G.M.

Unless you are putting on yourself, I'd just let your installer buy and use the one they are comfortable with (assuming it looks good enough to you).

Years ago when I had my 69 442 convertible it needed a top. The guys I had do it (Smitty's, in Springfield, IL) would only use their supplier for the top and pads, although they did use my boot well and my NOS cables.

I absolutely agree with BigFun & Cameo. I do my own tops, but I don't recommend it for the faint of heart...

Ditto here. I bought a top kit and then went to an upholsterer to get it installed, only to find out the upholsterer makes his own tops or only uses a couple of brand names. Fortunately, the brand name I bought was one of the two names the upholsterer uses, so he installed mine and did a great job. Talk to your installer first before you buy anything.

Since you live in St. Louis

I had the top for my Cutlass put on by these guys in south St. Louis City;

Ther establishment isn't much to look at but they do great work and I believe their prices are in line with the rest of this type work.

Why not stop by and talk to them. It won't cost you anything for an estimate.

I am quite satisfied with my top. Fits and works great.

I helped my nephew put a top on his 1976? Eldorado. Never did get all the wrinkles out. I had a pro put one on my 69 442. Beautiful, not a wrinkle. Had a pro do my 89 mustang gt. Still had wrinkles. I would definately have a pro and check out some of their work first.

Didn't buy a top, but bought other large items. Got screwed by BAP both times. I would never buy from them or recommend them to anyone, even my enemies. Bunch of extortionists with high prices, excessive shipping costs and liars to boot. Anything they sell can be had from other places who use the same suppliers and don't jack you with the prices or shipping. However, it's a free country - buy from whoever you want to

I have had a Kee top on for the past 3 years - seems great. Installer did a good job, too.

I was a victim, too. Find another supplier.

I haven't bought it yet. I did think their shipping costs were a little steep. I live in STL, I have to go to KC in a month. Thought I'd pick it up while there and save the 43 dollars. Well, when I called, I was told it ships from a warehouse in Pennsylvania. So, Out of all the reprodution tops that are out there. Can someone recommend something, or should I let the local auto upholstery place make the top? It's a company called Dr. Vinyl.

Kee tops fit great and having the shop stitch one up might be quite costly. Year One sold Kee, and I think they do directly.
Talk to the shop and get some pricing and details on what cars they have done. If they do not have much experience on the old cars, i would not have them make one.

X2. If a shop won't use a Kee top, I'd check their pedigree. They could still be great, but I would check.

I've only done 3 tops in my life, so I had a question about the installation on my GTO. Kee got the installer on the line with me and talked me through it!

That's the kind of service you want. If I had a vert, I'd be buying from them too. Hmmm, almost worth finding a vert project car just to do it.

I have no specific experience with them (last top I did was 20 years ago and pre-interwebs, and I don't remember who made it), but I have noticed that Aro Tops claims to have been an OEM manufacturer to GM and to use the original patterns.
