93 octane mandatory??

i know this is probably a silly question, I've always had car with turbos before which required the highest octane at all times. Well now I've got an 87 442 with a Chevy 350 (yeah i know, spare the jokes.lol). Anways, I bought the car with the engine already in it. I know it's got a decent sized cam in it, but don't know if the compression was bumped up when it was re-built or not. Is it safe to say that I should always run 93 octane since I'm not 100% on the compression of the engine?

Thanks!
Drew

on older non computer controlled cars, you can retard the timing until the spark knock goes away and safely drive on lower octane gasoline, but you sacrifice performance when you retard the timing.

on a computer controlled vehicle im not sure, but i would have to think same theory applies.
