71' Cutlass conv. exhaust question

hey guy's, I am building an engine and installing it in a customers 1971 Cutlass conv., and have some questions.it currently has a 350,I am installing a 455. my question is when I order headers for it,do they need to be specific for a convertable? reason I ask is, I had to replace a ex. manifold awhile back on the 350 and it was specific to a convertable. also, anyone recommend a particular brand header that they have used and liked? thanks for any help,Brian

Olds exhaust manifolds are NOT specific to convertibles. Don't know who told you that, but the Factory Parts Book lists the same P/N manifolds for all A-body 350 cars.

Most header manufacturers will have a footnote that their headers either don't fit Supremes or don't fit convertibles. Both statements are wrong. Just order Cutlass/442 headers for your year and engine (350 and 455 use different headers).

What Joes said is correct its a myth that the headers will not fit supremes. As for brand I have always been partial to Hooker super comps. They fit with out any major headaches. I always lay the headers in first then I drop the motor in a bolt them up. Jkaz

so, does it being a convertable make it a supreme? so far all of the headers that I have looked into say they do not fit the supreme.

Well, yes and no. For the 1970-1972 model years, all convertibles were either Supremes or 442s. The body and frame difference (especially for 1972) was only in the trim levels. In any case, ignore any header catalog footnotes that claim the items won't fit Supremes (or convertibles for that matter).
