70 supreme random questions

A couple questions about my car...
1. The battery was located in the trunk at one time which I thought was after market but it appears to be factory because it runs under the carpet that does appear to be all original along with the rest of the interior. Is that possible?
2. I also have a air valve behind the license plate????? What's that for?
1970 cutlass supreme
Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Air valve behind license plate

Not sure about the battery cable to the trunk thing but the air valve behind the license plate was probably for air shocks. I have seen that several times.

Pretty sure that trunk kit was installed after the factory as the factory was not putting them in the trunk by that time, even on W-cars. A factory trunk mounted battery cable would have been run underneath the car, never thru the interior and especially not under the carpet. There's that little possibility of fire...

Were I you, I'd get it out of the interior and away from combustibles ASAP.

1. 1966 and 67 W-30s were the only factory-installed trunk-mounted batteries, so no, it is not possible that yours was factory.

2. The factory air shocks used a fill valve attached to the bumper behind the license plate.

Thanks for the info. Looks like my car had air shocks and currently has a fire hazard
I plan on pulling the carpet up next month so should be interesting.
One more question...
What does factory sound proofing consists of?
Thanks

Asphalt-based sound deadener adhered to the metal (which should be soft, but is probably brittle like glass) and jute padding.

Ok I just have the jute padding and looking through the opg catalog I have 68 CS emblems on the doors of my interior that shouldn't be there??? Guessing someone did a some interior swapping or something.
How much of a difference will using double jute make on sound?
3" exhaust with spintech pro street.

The asphalt insulation does most of the work, but works better soft than it does hard.

If yours is gone, you should replace it with an improved modern version, like DynaMat, FatMat, or one of the others.

It'll make a big difference.

i have a 71 cutlass supreme your battery should go on the driver side to the left of your radiator there "should" be a bracket made to hold the battery.

i also have the same air valve right by the gas filler cap under license plate maybe its stock or maybe it was just a common thing to do

Both. It's just the place where it goes.
