70 Cutlass with 425 motor

Hi I'm new to the forum, and recently aquired a 70 Cutlass that I want to tclone as a 442. The vehicle came with a newly rebuilt 425 that runs and sounds great. My problem is that I want the coreect 350 or a 455 in the car. I found a 350 with low miles that I will rebuild, and would like to sell the 425 motor. Is there anyone interested in this motor, and what could I do to the 350 without over building it to remain streetable.
Thanks
James

Welcome to the site. I personally know just about enough to get myself into a whole heap of it, but there are a bunch of good guys here that can help you out. That 425 aught to move here quickly for a reasonable price.

All 70 442's came with a 455 not a 350..... all hardtops were Cutlass S based and not the supreme body style....

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to give up 75 cu in? The 425 and 455 are virtually identical externally, so just paint it metallic blue and be done with it.

I bought a 70 Toronado just for the motor, I figured it was a 425 but where are the numbers located on the engine to identify which big block it is?

When the 350 rocket launches out of my engine bay to a stand, I'll let you know.

Take a look at the numbers cast into the block by the oil fill tube. If there is a big F cast in there its a 455.

70 with 425 motor

Just to try and answer your questions as to why I would like to get rid of 75 cubic inches. No 68 and future Cutlass came with a 425, and I would like to keep as close to period as possible. I have not been able to obtain a 455 at this time and came upon the correct year 350 at a decent price.

Take that 425 out on the street and beat on it a little bit.
Drive the car around and pay attention to it's response and torque.

Then once you have the 350 in, you will be kicking yourself because it will be extremely disappointing.

What are your plans for the 350 build? I hope you build a monster with it.

X2. (X3, 4, 5 or whatever) As one Joe said, the 350 isn't correct anyway. As the other Joe said, there's little difference between a 425 and a 455. If you put correct '70 E-heads on it, it would be transparent to most Olds guys, even. But I wouldn;t even do that. And the 425 is really a very good engine. They don't look radically different, so I'd go with the correct paint and enjoy the torque!
