69 cutlass s vinol roof question

i am restoring my 69 "S" and was wondering about the quarter trim i have seen them with stainless steel that go from the back side glass around the corner of the quarter panel to the back glass and seperates the vinol roof from the rest of the car.

mine had a black plasic ruber like strip that was cliped to a metal trim pice that is riveted to the quarter i would love to find some nice stainless quarter trim but im wondering if they came from fact both ways or do people replace the stainless trim with cheaper plastic replacement and if i go back i was wondering how the stainless is atatched to the body if its the same as the plastic trim any way thanks for any input!!!!

The plastic trim is not stock. It must be an aftermarket installation. The stock trim on the quarters used chrome pot metal ends that bolted through the fender with a stainless piece between them held with trim studs welded to the body. There was also a stainless piece that ran across the top of the trunklid, about an inch below the bottom of the back window. The trunklid was painted with texture paint above the trim to match the vinyl top.

69 vinyl top

On my 69 cutlass the trunk wasn't paint, it has a piece of trim painted to match the top.It has a little lip to hook onto the trunk deck and is held down with the piece of stainless trim that Joe talked about.
