69 chrome trim question.

I have been looking to get back into an olds after a 23 year hiatus. I'm looking at 69 convertables and have a question about the chrome trim around the wheel wells and the trim that runs on top of the fender, door and quarters. Did all 69's come with this trim? I see some cars have both, some have one and not the other and some have no trim. Is this a because of a restoration preference, an option offered at the time of purchase or an availability problem during restoration. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I'm not positive on this, but I think 442's and Cutlass 'S' had the top of fender/door trim. Wheel opening trim was an option on those models. Not sure on the others.

Re-read your post. I'm not sure on convertibles. But the top fender trim is likely hard to find. Some may have left it off during restoration/repaint. And good wheel opening molding sells for over $200 a set. So it's likely some left those off also.

68 and 69 convertibles all got the stainless trim along the top of the fenders. On the hardtops the trim ran from the headlights to the C-pillar, where it flowed into the drip rail. On the convertibles the trim continued along the tops of the rear fenders all the way to the back bumper.

Thanks fo the info. It appears that some individuals left the trim off during restoration for personal preference or they couldn't locate a set in good condition to restore. Originality is my preference, si I'll keep looking. Hope to have a 69 vert soon. Thanks again.

From my experience, On a 69 convertible, the chrome over the rear fenders is hard to find and expensive.

yup like hens teeth!!

it is worth the search, I did find all the trim for a 69, I was told a 68 is the same except for a cast end piece in the front and rear? but it took a LONG time to find and it was NOT cheap sorta like the 69 442 rear bumper.... almost impossible or ridiculous price...

I ordered a 69 cutlass with no crome at all. What I've been told is up to 72 you could order a car the way you wanted it and they would build it.Just my 2 cents worth. But I know mine didn't have any crome on the fenders or wheel wells.
