I would offer up that most '68 Cutlass cars were not made that way. You don't say it's a W31, but it's still a pretty hot car with the M21 close ratio 4spd transmission and the 3.91 posi rear end.

I agree. Duals, 4 spd, Rally Pac, posi 3.91 axle, HD radiator - this is a very nicely optioned car.

Unfortunately, a 1972 VIN card isn't going to help much with a 1968 car.

If you can take a picture of your trim tag, located on the cowl just under the back driver corner of your hood, or write what the trim tag says, that will provide information people can get back to you on, such as to build date, original exterior color(s), interior color and front seat type, assembly plant, and perhaps some option codes. Also, there are some pretty good books and manuals out there that are real good. A '68 Chassis Service Manual (green cover) is a must. An assembly manual also is a great publication to have, as well as the '68 Body By Fisher Service Manual (red cover). I also have the following: Oldsmobile 4-4-2 and W-Machines Restoration Guide by T. Patrick Sullivan, 1968 Oldsmobile Illustrated Facts & Features Manual put together by Jim Osborn Reproductions, the 4-4-2 Volume II Source Book that's edited and annotated by Paul North (also includes Cutlass S, Hurst & Others), and the Supercars Unlimited's 4-4-2 By The Numbers by Greg Rollin. Although not completely foolproof (there are some apparent mistakes in these books), they are generally on the mark and good references to have.

Do you have your original window sticker? That can tell a lot about your car as well.

And finally - this site! There are some real sharp people here that can answer a lot of your questions so feel free to ask. Someone will undoubtedly chime in, either because they know the answer or have experienced the same symtoms you car has, and so forth.

Again, your Cutlass sounds like quite a car!
