69 cutlass with a 68 front end?

This one puzzles me. Could this be correct?

Good question! I suspect by the back end and the door windows, it's truly a '69. If I had to make up the "A-Body Look of My Choice", though, it would look like that, except I would use the wind wing doors.

This car has been on Craigslist since before I bought my 442. It was one of the cars I was planning to go take a look at. If it did come from the factory that way I am sure there are not a lot of other cars like it.

If anybody from out of the area is interested in the car send me a PM. I do vehicle searches, pre-purchase inspections and would negotiate the best price for you.

68 and 69 front ends interchange. This is an easy swap and has been done many times. Back in the 1970s there was a 69 Cutlass with a 68 front end floating around my hometown in central MA.

So that car had to have had the front end changed at some point in it's life? No cars came from Olds that way as the model year changed?

I have seen that many times. Some 69 with 68 front. Most of the time it is 68 with 69 front.

I would be willing to bet my first born that no car ever came from the factory that way!

That certainly makes it a lot less cool than I thought it might be.

They shut down the assembly line for model year changeover to install any new tooling that was needing to accomadate the new bodystyles being introduced. They did not add unused or leftover body panels etc. to the next model year vehicles.

I did hear of a 70s z-28 coming off the line and being delivered with a t/a fender on it. Just 1, not both.

But if is't not documented, then it's urban myth.

I've got one, a 69 with a 68 front & fenders. Had it for 10 years. 68 hood hinges had to be replaced with 69's or the hood wound'nt go down in the back. Up front some front support holes don't line up. Still used the 69 grill assembly. Have a true 69 front end for replacement, just slow to get done.
