65 auto shift console question

Well I tried the search, my 65 f85 might have been a manual judging from the hole in the tunnel. Now it has a th400 and hurst shifter. The car did not come with a console they don’t seem to manufacture these. Is there any interchange with other A-bodies? Even if it isn’t correct. I will make one before I spend 3-600 on one!

If you're willing to fabricate your own console then you aren't concerned with keeping the car concours. $300-$600 seems like a fair price for an aftermarket console designed for a Chevelle. But what do I know?

If you don't have to get your hands on an OE or NOS console then you need to visit a local salvage yard. Hopefully you could find a 70s or 80s GM car with a console you could fit into your Olds. Use this website as a start:

It’s not that I don’t appreciate concourse but the 69 455 and th400 that came in it throw that right out. Looks and function are good enough for me. From what I’ve seen for consoles that’s
What they go for, I’m just not in it for that. Wish we had good junkyards up here but they rust away. I will try the link thanks. My comment on the Chevelle was that maybe the Chevy stuff is cheaper, it was the case in ford vs Chevy.

Yes consoles are an expensive item as most are not reprduced. Here on classic olds theres paint dab restos as well as LS swaps.

for the most part im w you looks and function, on my car i have parts that are not “ correct” but fit and function fine and do the job i expect them to.

65 f85s did come with an automatic console if ordered, they are available used. the original shifter is prone to breaking though so not as easy to find in great shape. good luck

A 67-72 Cutlass 442 shifter will fit into a 64-66 console. I would look at finding a 67-68-69 console with shifter on parts wanted.

The stock 1965 AT floor shifter used a lever and rod that went through a hole in the tunnel. A manual trans car would have had the mount for the clutch z-bar welded to the frame below the master cylinder.

Sorry to bring this topic back from the dead but does anyone know how the 66-72 consoles fit the floor of the 64-65 cars? Any photos? Thanks

Actually it's 1967-69 and the 1967 floorpan is the same as the 64-66.

thank you, I didn’t mean to say the 66-72 was the same I was just curious how any of the consoles from 66-72 would fit the 64-65 cars

My point was that 64-66 used the same consoles. 67-69 used the same consoles.
