350 to a 442

I have a 69 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I'm about to go through it. The question I have is "Can I convert it to a 442"? Would that be a bad thing to do if I could.

With enough cash its possible to make it look like one, but the Supreme would be a bit more difficult than a regular Cutlass or F-85 due to the different side moldings.

Any thing is possible, just don't try to pass it off as one when it comes time to sell it.

A real 69 442 would have a different VIN, but you can turn it into a clone. Virtually all of the necessary cosmetic parts (grilles, emblems) are available from repro houses. The cutout back bumper is not. You'd also need to change the drivetrain and suspension.

Actually, now that I think about it, did the 69 Supreme 2dr use the flat hood or the "double hump" hood? If the former, you'd need to find the correct 442/Cutlass S hood as well.

Depends whether your intent is to please yourself, or everyone else.

There is no "bad way" to do the former, and it is impossible to do the latter.

If you chose to use a Chev engine, it would only be "bad" if you talked about it on an Olds site.

You could easily convert it into a 442. However, it would be difficult; if not near impossible, to turn it into a 98. Those were the best Oldsmobiles available.
