Jimmy Carter was probably one of the most honest and moral people to occupy the White House in our lifetime. With one exception I can think of, he was the least effective president of our lifetime. RIP President Carter.
It's funny. That speech he gave where he decried the lack of optimism and all in the American people has been called his "Malaise Speech," and that era has become known as the Malaise Era.
Carter separately talked about a malaise plaguing America, but he never used the word "malaise" in that speech.
Carter was not a great president, but what did him in as far as any second term was the Iran hostage crisis, which stretched right through and past the 1980 presidential election. Every night on the evening news, Walter Cronkite would say "Day XXX of the Iran hostage crisis." The next day would be day XXX+1. And on and on and on to over 400 days by the time it finally ended. Carter complained privately about Cronkite doing that because it kept reminding Americans of the crisis (like they needed reminding), and it also reminded Americans of his ineffectiveness in solving the problem and getting the hostages rescued. The failed "Operation Eagle Claw," which was the attempt to rescue the hostages by military action, didn't help. Again, all that did was make Carter look even more helpless and ineffective.
Sorry, but you cannot put the blame for the "malaise era" cars on Jimmy Carter's back when the wheels were set in motion for those long before his presidency (does anyone think that maybe Nixon's establishment of the EPA had anything to do with it??). Also, don't forget that Reagan screwed Carter in the '80 election by making a deal with Iran to not release the hostages while Carter was in office (remember, the hostages were released on the day Reagan was inaugurated). Sure, Carter made some missteps along his way that failed to get their release, but much of the criticism about him is misplaced.

Really? You're going to actually make this "complaint?"
How do you know Carter didn't own an Oldsmobile at some point in his life?

Tell you what. Tell me how to delete the topic and I'll eliminate the problem. Or you can do it, makes no damn difference to me.
Sheesh.

Gentlemen, I find your conduct deplorable. Please review the following rule of the forum, and please realize that perhaps you should fully ascertain the motivations of someone before you put your foot in your mouth. As a Nationalist, I would have said the same thing had W Bush passed on as I said about Jimmy Carter as I do not give a damn about much of our politics.
I did not turn this political. In fact, it has not been political yet. I clearly referenced a forum rule; I did not call for the thread to be deleted. Perhaps I should have used the report post function, but none of this deserves your animosity.
Frankly, as a friend of mine, I would expect better in that you would understand my point once I clarified, and also understand the difference between calling someone deplorable, and their conduct deplorable. I am disturbed by your anger and regret that I caused it, much more so than that of Jaunty, who is a known hard-case around here, and Funkwagon, who seems to be heading down the same road as Jaunty in regards to his relations with others.
What a nice guy you are! You regret making rocketraider mad, but you don't regret making me or funkwagon mad.
Correction. What a pompous *** you are!
Correct. While I don't think I did anything, or anyone, wrong by quoting a forum rule, I regret that I made Glen angered and upset because he is my friend. You are not, neither is Funk, and, while I don't make it a point of deliberately pissing people off (you'll note that both of you came after me first), I am mature enough to realize that, sometimes, you can't be on good terms with everyone. I'm also mature enough to realize that you defeat your own standing by calling me a pompous ***, so it's basically "whatever" at this point regarding you from me.
Here's a screenshot of this section's threads. All the non-ClassicOlds and non-ClassicOlds friends have been moved to the general section, and that is all I was mentioning. I don't have an opinion on President Carter one way or the other.

I’m not mad…dogs go mad.. Karen’s are gonna be Karen’s!! Do your best to keep a clean, human heart. Don’t let toxic people influence your life. Sincerely… deplorable…..perhaps proudly deplorable.

Without becoming encased in any political discussions, I believe in bestowing respect to any president of the U.S.A. by honoring them w/ a National Day Of Mourning. RIP Mr. President.
A couple of things. I know Funkwagon and you could never meet a nicer guy. This other is it looks like a couple of people are making this political and I expect this thread to be closed soon. I am not calling any names but it is unfortunate that we seem to always have a few folks who have to step in and screw a thread up.
