A trivia tidbit that some may not know is that his mother was the Dallas secretary that invented Liquid Paper. Of course there are probably some on here that never heard of Liquid Paper. RIP Michael.

Damn Skippy I went through jars of Liquid Paper. The first typewriter in our home was this behemoth Underwood manual Dad brought home from AT&T (where he worked). I think it weighed more than our kitchen table where it sat when in use. Michael's mother invented Liquid Paper - well I'll be. Learn something interesting every day. "I'm A Believer" RIP

Even though someone else wrote it, shows off Nesmith's true talent.

And on his own...

He visualized a TV show to be called Pop Cuts, which eventually became Much Music.

I can't believe nobody has posted anything about the Monkeymobile.

Glenn - Curiously, out of all the Monkey's Mike was the only Monkey who would not autograph this Monkeymobile. Rather peculiar.

Interesting. I wonder what his reason was.

I think he felt like they were taken advantage of by the system. So common back then. Look at how many of our favorite 50's 60's 70's 80's and before artist's got nothing.

My Girl's close close friend was one of the daughters in The Sound of Music. She get's nothing. Check for twenty bucks here and there.

Peace To Michael Nesmith and all of his family. He passed amongst family and friends. That is a blessing.

Nesmith and Tork were creditable musicians and both chafed at the goofy plotlines and not being able to write and use their own songs for the show.

If memory serves me correctly didn't Mike quit the band without explanation at one point?

How many of you remember the TV show Circus Boy, staring Mickey Dolenz? Also featuring Noah Beery as a clown in the series, who later stared in the tv series Rockford files as Rocky.

Yes. He was fed up with the commercial fabrication of The Monkees by Don Kirshner.

I’m the youngest of 5 by far, born the same year as my car. I rolled off the assembly line 4 days after my car was originally purchased at the dealership. Anyway, my older sibs all wanted to name me after Monkee members. Indeed my first name can be easily derived from Davey Jones and middle name from Michael Nesmith and/or Mickey Dolenz. Anywho…my earliest TV memories included the Monkees, but I was really into a show called The Banana Splits and of course the original Batman with Adam West.

I think Mike wanted to disassociate himself from the Monkees as quickly as possible. It was more important to him to be a legitimate musician than on a dopey tv show. I am a huge fan of the show though and the music. I never looked up his solo work, i gotta say that elephant parts song is straight awful.

Hahaha! Those videos were great! I spent my formative years imprinting on psychedelic hysteria. Suddenly my whole life makes sense. 🤪

Thanks for this thread. Mike & Dolenz were just here in Mpls. on Nov. 9th. Mickey later said Mike was determined to finish the tour even though he was not in good health. Just a few years ago, he had quadruple heart bypass surgery.
My favorite song of theirs is Shades of Gray. In my opinion, their most serious, poignant song they ever did. Check it out on you-tube.
RIP Mike.

Nesmith produced Repo Man, one of my all time favorites and a car movie in it's own right.
