Alternatives to paypal?
Alternatives to paypal?
Getting the long dong here from Paypal and will probably end up cutting them off. Fortunately, they were only associated with one credit card and one crappy little bank account from my college days, which I have been meaning to close anyway.
Most of you dudes being old fashioned gents still take checks and money orders, but do we recommend any other "paypal-like" services here? Think I'm going straight credit card to Ebay.

About 6 or 7 years ago someone in Florida (a business of some type) compromised my PayPal account and began placing orders for merchandise on my PayPal account. I attempted to contact the business without success. I filed two formal complaints w/ PayPal and they were 100% useless. I deleted my PayPal account and removed my one CC associated w/ my PayPal account. I contacted my bank and they denied payment for those transactions I did not make. It was some time during a period maybe 7-10 years ago, when if you purchased via PayPal, there was no pay with CC option - simply buy it (pay) with your PayPal account. I've noticed for every transaction I've made during the past 4-5 years any time a seller now uses PayPal, I'm provided with the option to pay by CC instead of a PayPal account. PayPal does not keep any record of my CC account number, and I'm assuming in the background when I make a purchase from a vendor who uses PayPal, when I select my CC to purchase, the transaction is charged to my CC and the funds are immediately transferred to the vendor's PayPal account without me having to hold a PayPal account. Which, I will never ever do again. PayPal was 100% useless from a buyer's point of view, IMO.
I placed an order from France of which was transacted through Paypal, way over 10 years ago and I'm still waiting for delivery. They are known for taking advantage of economies of which lack consumer protection legislation.
I don't know how it works in the U.S. anymore. But, here in Europe, I pay for a delivery in advance, through personal bank visits. I never engage in on-line banking, because of insecurity

I'm with you Killian, PayPal donged me recently and I have cut ties. I was returning a seat motor because the seller sent a passenger side when I needed the other side. He apologized, agreed to pay shipping and refund blah blah blah. When I answered the email asking if I wanted to print the shipper I just pressed the button without reading the fine print. I thought to myself: 'The seller is paying shipping' and missed the scam. Neither PayPal nor Ebay is helping me resolve it. When it was sent originally, it was a $95 for the part with $29 for shipping. The return shipping was $100. I tried multiple phone calls and supervisors and got no love. Ironically, when I pulled the driver's seat motor and discovered the mismatch, I also found the shorted wire and fixed the original motor.
Payment options & where that lead me..
N th days of my youth when Octainia was assisting more olds owners than you'd imagine... POS buyer paid & took delivery of hi $ item...they cried wolfe so pay pal demonstrated how $ thought yours..is theirs.
& notification , justification , or due proccess are not needed to allocate funds of large denomination & leave you with that sore back 40 feelin....ROBBED BY PAY PAL..FOR THE ACTUAL THIEF...
Isnt that special...no recourse...grievence process.. No part.. No $...NO TRUCKIN WAY ?!?!??
it happens...another person I know...same M/O on coin deal.

So...would not pis on pay pal if they was on fire..
Might considder ingnition device....
Wal mart $ transfer has been well recieved even from customer in France
Before the turn of the century when glossy three by fives delivered by the mail & postal money orders were sent back and forth due to ads in Journey with olds
postal money orders we're always good to go I have learned recently the POS thieves have learned how to counterfeit them but not learned how many years in prison the average tampering with the mail charge will get you
basically you need to invest enough time with the person on the other end to establish their legitimacy certain red flags go up & need to be paid heed to to cover your assets
people that are in a hurry a big hurry rushing around got to do the right now all that crap I don't trust them.. not just cuz I'm slower than the old folks doing it either its a distraction technique
Genuine people for the most part...know what they are talkin about , or admit that. they dont..

Your results may vary...
I will take pictures 6 ways from sunday to make absolutly certain part is satisfactory..correct...
POS type may have 1-2 fotos they stole somewhere & not at all photogenic..
.a sub standard foto & no intentions of producing a decent one despite request...two is my limit on askin strangers identical questions...
Not 100% guranteed & not open for discussion..how I see it
If this helps great & if your not in concurance . feel free to be that way..

Thanks for all the advice.
So, Paypal has been continually crap over this, but, from what I figure, according to the credit card, someone hit my account for multiple, identical transactions off ebay through paypal. Some 400 bucks total. Paypal keeps insisting, via a different Indian with bad English each time, that I must upload driver's license and proof of address like utility statement each time. Repeated inquiries for more info, or removing that, or even what the hell happened, has no effect, including an email to their executive office account I found on a forum.
CapitalOne has been pretty good to me, it's a new card, and they recommended keeping their account but they'd send me a new card with a different number. THEY show the fraudulent transactions, but Paypal (and this is going to bit them in the ***) won't show them on my activity because they don't want to let me know what's going on (since they think I'm doing, I guess). So, credit card fixed.
For the bank account, I'm not the smartest guy, but at least I knew to keep Paypal on a small, unrelated checking account which I cashed out and closed yesterday afternoon and collected the 200 or so bucks in it. Now Paypal has my info on a limited account I can't delete, but the account has no valid funding to it, and the credits went through yesterday morning on the card, so it looks like Paypal itself is sucking 400 some dollars of backcharged *** and they won't be able to hit my bank account for it as the account is no longer there. Now I will write checks, use credit cards direct on Ebay, and look into Venmo and Zelle.
I win this round, but Paypal may try for collections. Fortunately the transactions aren't on my Paypa account activity list, so hopefully they're not able to be considered legitimate, and, since they are for 7 or 8 repeats of the exact same amount, it should look fraudulent enough to be written off.
I made that paypal account in 01; unfortunate that so many companies get so big that they just throw decency out the window. Guess they'll meet us again on the way down.

Yeah Paypal blows, it seems like alot of the guys here in the olds classifieds only want to use paypal, I wish you guys in the US would do Etransfers like here in the great white north, no need to pay a middleman a cut of your hard earned money, specially there cut throat fees.
Capital One uses Zelle in conjunction with their online banking app. It’s an easy way to move money between individuals, but I never used it to pay a vendor for a part/service. Paid rent to my landlord, sent money to a friend, etc. But check it out, it may do what you need.
We are using zelle to pay the wedding venue and other vendors (youngest daughter). In addition, The Queen, and daughters, signed us up on Venmo....I hate it. Not them specifically as the process is seamless. I hate the fact that my accounts are so exposed. Yes, I could open yet another account to load up as needed but, damn, that is another process in a effort to make things easier....in a global world.
But, hell, I still carry cash. How old is THAT?

One of the advantages of Zelle as I see it is that you don't expose much of anything. The only information you give to someone who wants to send you money is your email address, something that's hardly a secret and that hardly puts you in financial danger if someone knows it. They go to their bank's website, go to the Zelle transaction section, and send money to my email address. Zelle itself connects my email address to my bank, and my bank connects Zelle to the specific bank account I want the money deposited into. I've never been to the Zelle website. I've handled all Zelle transactions through my bank, which gives me some level of comfort as they're very likely to come to my aid if there is a problem as they're always promoting Zelle for money transfers.
I'm still using PayPal, but after reading this thread I'm starting to question the wisdom of that. I was recently advised by a forum member (who I am inclined to trust) that he is moving more and more toward using Zelle and moving away from PP. My problem is that I like to keep business as business and don't want to give up the consumer protections of PayPal. Be they real or simply imagined, I can't say since I have never actually tried to use them. But I do like getting a PayPal invoice and just paying it to complete the transaction.
I used to be, and maybe still am, a member of a local credit union. It seems that dealing on a personal level is a far better guarantee than fully remote transaction dealing

I still actually get out of my truck and go into the bank for my business and personal banking activities. I like to know who I am banking with, at least at the branch level. All of the branch employees acknowledge me by name. Even though, I generally use the ATM inside the branch for deposits / withdrawals, instead going up to the teller. I just started doing that two years ago.
I haven't used a drive thru more than a dozen times in as many years. Hell, I could make all of my deposits via IPhone from the convenience of my office but....I ain't gonna.

I haven't had any problems with Pay Pal and always thought they were OK until I read this thread, but I only have used it for small online transactions usually thru ebay or to Rock Auto. A month or so ago I wanted to sell a truck thru Craigslist and put on a ad that cost $5.00. Craigslist won't take Paypal or Discover ( online I always use Paypal or Discover cuz I didn't want my MC card messed with) Anyway I had to use my Citi Bank Master Card for the ad. A week or so later I get a notification from Citi that someone in Columbia attempted to use my MC for a $1700.00 purchase!! I thought back and believe my # must have gotten out there from Craigslist as it was the only thing different. I tried to contact someone from Craigslist and couldn't. Mean while I had to get another card and # from Citi.
Craigs scammers
Idont know if they hack into Craigslist or they run it but when I list ads even before I'm done with them immediately I have scammers with the same old story the same old crap like my mom wants to know....... three identical contacts on three different ads right away the bullshit flag goes up ...tellyour mom she can smoke my sausage
they will not call and talk to you on the phone like a normal person and a text always full of broken English
there's a few others too but it's been so long I don't remember one guy was going to send me too much money and I always had those people send a check to the guy I don't like scammer guy he wants to know if I got his money and all that I told him I had to spend all my money and yours and he certainly was disappointed and upset until I told him that I caught my son trying to rip me off & knockedt his teeth down his throat & had to spend all our money on emergency dental surgery for some reason he never got back with me for his money

That fake checque worth 200 times more than what the item costs is an old trick they had attempted play on me years ago on ebay. It wasn't a scam that was exclusive to only Craiglist. It was some Polish guy who sent the checque from England. He was in a hurry to have me pay his messenger back in cash, as soon as he showed up to collect the item for sale. Most disappointing was that the cops weren't interested in solving the scam whatsoever
