Need advice!

Once again I come to COlooking advice ....1968 Chevelle MAlibu is 4 sale by a neighbor that did not get around to restoring it 25 years ago. It is originL and a convertable..is it worth saving? Numbers match....I know nothing of these cars and I have a feeling that it will be scrapped ....thanks, any input would be great!

They hold their value nicely, basically a funny looking Cutlass. If your neighbor is not really proud of it, try the dark side.

+1.

It seems like a pile of rust with a Chevelle Trim plate is worth as much as a restored Cutlass.

If you can get a good price, by whatever means are necessary, then buy it.

I'm no Chebby expert, but...

Is it at least a V8 car ? A/C ? Options ? Is it complete ? I mean really complete. Not "Yeah, it's mostly in those boxes over there." complete.

Depends on what you might want to with it. Fix it up to driver, but not exactly 'correct' ? You'd probably be OK as there's tons of repro (particularly for C cars) & '69-'72 parts out there.

If you want to concourse restore it, keep in mind that '68 is weird year for GM A-bodies. While a lot of stuff is the same as comparable '69-'72 models, there are things unique to '68 that are cool (like rare-ish 4 piston big bore disc brakes) or a PITA (finding good correct '68 'vert vent window frames).

It would be hard to go wrong with a '68 Chevelle convertible for $2,000, unless it's the aforementioned pile of rust.

307 v8, electric windows, Rw defrost, split bench column shift...
It was on a trailer so the frame is ok....the lower half of body is rough but the pillars are solid...

Get it, drop an Olds 455 in it, and tee off all of the Chebby guys.

I guess that just means you're too old to want to be able to pull your girl close as you cruise down the boulevard, Grandpa.

I've never really been a "cruiser" type. For me, it's more about staying put in the drivers seat while the car is powersliding sideways under WOT. The wife doesn't like doing that, so she rarely ever rides with me.
