Power loss
Hi. A loss of power could be caused by a number of things. When was your last major tune-up? Is it making any noise, or running smooth. Have you checked for vacumn leaks? etc. If you can be more specific on the details, we may be able to help out better. Thanks, Jim.

Has it always been that way or is the car doing something new? It could be that it is a 305 2bbl engine in a full size car and you are used to more power than that. Then again, maybe not. Jumping a tooth or two on the timing chain can cause thse problems as well. I have also heard of carboned-up motors that have little power.

No offense taken. This happened to our 68 Torino GT back in the day. We drove the car about 30 miles to its destination, coughing and stumbling all the way back. It was just the timing chain. Not saying that is the 87 S's problem, but thought I would throw that out. I don't like it when an engine knocks at startup. Signs of bad things to come. My 98 Astro started doing that a couple of weeks ago and its power is beginning to fall off as well. Good thing my wife is getting her inheritance soon,
