Yeah, with her husband otherwise engaged, she'll have to get that car going herself, or she'll miss work entirely.

So, um, what exactly was the problem with this column, other than his not telling her to check for spark?

Also, in the vacuum line to the distributor advance canister, there is a 2-way connector, which may be faulty. This part was superceded with a better junction on later models, using an additional port. I suggest that you try a 3-way and see if your situation improves.
