It didn’t bother me one bit to crawl around under a car all day, on cold concrete (many times, in the dirt, or gravel). Now that I’m almost 50, an hour under the car today hurts for 3 days after the job is done. When I’m 70, I’ll probably look back fondly at my “youth” of 50.

Idk if it's the fact my dad never complained and to this day @ 71 he does not complain. Perhaps it's the fact my mom was a smart *** . I work with a bunch of 20 year olds. I'm in my 30's. There is a huge generation gap there. Instead of complaining about how stupid they are uli just physically make sure they screw so I can come over and be like " here ya go this way takes 2 seconds" lol. Plus I realized that most old guys like to say imports suck this and that and they crap on imports. But these kids are doing the same thing many did in the lat 70's early 80's buying the cheapest car they can make go fast. ( Which most cars highschoolers drove where slow loud and ugly with side pipes and tires that didn't sit right). Same as kids today. You are growing grouchy because things are not as they where. We all do dumb stuff. Personally I stop when I start to think of stuff like that. There is better things to do. When someone drives like an idiot I just back off let em around and go about my day.

Well, when you hit your 60s you will be less tolerant of those young whipper snappers. Decades of giving idiots a pass will finally diminish that opening in your tolerance window...

Both my neighbors who in friends with are right there age wise and they seem more passive on the matter.

From a calendar I had years ago:

"As soon as you make something idiot-proof, someone else will make a new and improved idiot!"

It appears that a lot of the gripes have to do with respect, most of the respect issues that seem to irritate us have to do with simple common courtesy and basic fundamentals that were taught to us as children. these include but are not limited to respect your elders, treat others as you would like to be treated, look both ways ( not at your cell phone ) before crossing the street, open doors for people, these are all things that just seem automatic to us perhaps that's why we seem intolerant when people can't extend a common courtesy or follow certain common sense rules.
Let me give you two examples one of respect one of no respect.
this has stuck with me for 51 years. I was about 16 when my Grandfather died.during his funeral procession as immediate family we were in the limo behind the hearse in what I believe is a tradition the funeral procession left the funeral home then headed towards my Grandfathers house for one last pass, as we went through his neighborhood we passed a ball field where two little league teams were playing a game as the procession slowly passed the game stopped and one by one those little leaguers stopped faced the procession and removed their hats until we all passed. Now I don't know if they received a cue from a umpire or a coach but it was total respect and I will never forget it. I dont know if that would happen today.it was not planned or staged my grandfather had nothing to do with the park dist. or little league.
Now the no respect, a few years ago on Halloween ( fell on a school day/ weekday) my neighbor thought trick or treating had ended for the night it was about 9:30 and he was out of candy (he always passed out the good stuff) his doorbell rang and he answered the door to greet a kid he says was about 16, the neighbor asked aren't you a little old? and isn't it a little late ? the kid shrugged his shoulders and my neighbor out of kindness said wait 1 minute, since he was out of candy he knew his wife kept a bowl of hard candy on the mantel so he grabbed a handful and deposited it in the kids bag, the kid looked at the candy apparently in disgust because it wasn't a Reese's peanut butter cup or snickers and said "THANKS FOR NOTHING YOU OLD FART SNIFFER " and made a quick exit !!
This was a long winded response but I'm chore-less today and had the time and figured I'd share.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not saying you are wrong and we are right. We are all just posting opinions and observations. A lot of it tongue in cheek also. You make valid points and when I was thirty years younger I had the same mentality. The problem is when you get into our age bracket your fuse, that has been getting shorter each time you "tolerate" something or "let this roll off your back" is getting pretty damn short. And as the humorous statement goes "I got one damn nerve left and you just got on it"

Should we continue to let it roll off our backs? Probably. It would be much better for our blood pressure and general attitude of life, but as you may find out in thirty years, it's easy to say but a lot harder to do. Keep in mind. This is a bitch session. It's healthy to vent and if we can do it in a humorous way, all the better. I don't know all of you guys personally, but I'd venture to say, we're probably very fun to hang around with. So don't think we are just a bunch of crotchety old men.

In thirty years I hope you still have the same perspective on it, but if not, let me be the first to say... We told you so!

I don't like people who think they're better than others and act like it. At my work, they promote for everything but hard work, skill, and sacrifice; it's all who you know and who you blow, and, once someone gets a promotion, they are royalty, and you are peasant filth. I also don't like people complaining when they don't know what their bitching entails. I've had to do backflips to make something the way one person on the line likes it, yet I can't tell them they're being ridiculous even when they are obviously being so. Telling their supervisors doesn't work either because they always side with their people, so you kind of have to arrange it so they organically notice the stupidity on their own and put an end to it.

I don't like people who are ignorant and stupid suddenly becoming a virologist, or a Constitutional law scholar, based on what their favorite talking head said on the internet so they can argue their political religion better.

I think my least favorite one, though, is this. I've taken time before to explain things to people and show them, from my experience, how to make it easier, faster, less costly, better, safer, whatever. They listen, or at least they appear to do so, and then they don't do what you advised them to do, then they lament when they get into trouble later. It's as if I am wasting my time, breath, and effort trying to help them, and I possess a position of such little importance in their lives that they deem anything I have to say as not worth listening to at all. I am, by nature, a helpful and communicative person, but I have realized that it's usually a waste of time with most people, work and personal. There's a whole area of business psychology on this where you diminish your personal brand equity by giving free advice. Your advice is "worth more" when someone pays for it just because they paid for it.

Yah, people like that torque my shorts too.

Reminds me of one of my old supervisors. He was an old Navy hand and salty barely described him. He'd toned it down some, probably got chewed on, but some stoopit memo came out and he went off. After he calmed down he says "I'm trying hard to not cuss so much but this damn place makes me cuss!!"

Ex Navy here as well. Your comment is funny and true. In the Nav if you didn't start every sentence with an expletive nobody paid any attention to you. It was a different world. I'm sure it has changed now though, but maybe not. When every day could be your last, there was a lot less tolerance for B.S. And there was no time for political correctness. Say your piece plainly and clearly or you get run over and left behind. There is rude. There is crass and there is insensitive, all of which should not be tolerated, but P.C. needs to go down the toilet with the TP.

I tell people I am in pretty good shape....for the shape I'm in.

Kinda throws them into a short pause while deciphering that.

Most of the annoying sh%$ people pull I'm able to ignore and file in the category of "It just doesn't matter". However, the one thing that pushes me over the edge is anyone who physically or mentally abuses any person or animal that is incapable of defending itself. Period!

Speaking of pet peeves...I almost forgot about this one since the pandemic, I don't go inside fast food joints anymore. Right out of the box I would tell the order taker that "This is to go". After we go through what I want I get "Is this for here, or to go?"
I got to where I would do that every time just to see who wasn't listening. Mostly, no one. They have a routine they go thru and you just can't pull them out of of it.

If you really want to have some fun, if your order costs say $ 7.39 give them $ 8.09. Watch the blank 1000 yard stare as they look into the money slots in the cash draw. Hey, don't judge me...old guys gots to get their kicks, too.

I tell people I was better but I got over it. They look at you for a moment and wonder what you just said.

Glenn, every time you post I spend more time looking at your pictures than reading what you posted. Not saying your post is unimportant, just I drool over old warbirds. Nice B-24, P-40 and is that a Stearman I see hiding behind your car? Are you fortunate enough to be the owner or even friends of the owner?

I love old planes and old cars and they go together so well. I could only wish I owned on of these or even knew the owner. This picture was taken at a combination air show and car show about six years ago. It was at a show at the Lancaster Airport which is slightly south of Dallas. I go every year and it is a fun show. The B24 is owned by the Commerative Air Force (CAF) and is one of two in the world that are in flying condition. I believe the P40 and the Stearman are owned by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum. My brother actually took a ride in the Stearman. It was a great photo op. This was the only time they have had the B24 there. This is a fairly small municipal airport. It was a very hot day and the old Lib used every inch of runway taking off. That thing gives me goosebumps when it cranks up.

Wow! She's an early production 24. Fully round engine nacelles. Non supercharged. Probably part of the reason she struggles to get in the air on hot days. The other airworthy 24 is owned by the Collings Foundation in Mass. Unfortunately after the crash of their B-17 "909" their FAA exception has been pulled so no more rides. It was a real shame. I flew in 909 four times. Really felt bad when I heard she crashed.

You know your old airplanes. I believe this one never saw combat. I think the story is she had an accident early in her career and then wound up being used as a trainer. I think the Collins plane actually saw combat and they promote that fact. That B17 accident was horrible. I went through that B17 when they were in Dallas.

Hmmmmm,
I hesitated to post this because it could open up a whole new can of worms, or could be a seperate post BUT I'm going to do it anyway because this one could unite the whole crew ages 25-85 !!
I have been married over 44 years and love my wife to death I probably would not be who I am or have what I have if it were not for her. that being said here are a few things she does that drive me crazy sometimes I just laugh at them because there so goofy. I know this is dangerous territory !!
1. this is a biggie, all 3 of my daughters are out of the house 2 married 1 soon to be they have been out of the house for some time, we are both retired so its just us and the dog, at least 2-3 times a week from the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom I hear "damn it, who did this " my usual response is it was the dog !! there are only two of us here who do you think did it ? why don't you just say Mark did you do this ? or why did you do this ? drives me nuts.
2. love this one, she cooks and I love to cook, we have a full complement of spices and they are frequently used, she keeps them in the smallest corner cabinet of the kitchen, I'm a pretty handy guy and have suggested for years at least 100 times I can make a really nice sliding
spice rack for that cabinet to keep these spices ready and neat, NO she says I don't want one, instead she stacks the cans on top of one another in a order she likes, then when I use them and mess them up she says (you guessed it ) WHO DID THIS !!!
3. when we go to a event that requires a parking fee (concert, sporting event pre covid) I let her take care of the parking because I don't want to be undoing seat belts squirming around for my wallet when we get there, so she knows there is a fee and she waits until we get to the
gate or attendent before she starts fumbling around in the suitcase sized purse for the money, all while the cars are stacking up behind us !!
4. and I know this on plaques at least some of us ALWAYS LATE and I mean ALWAYS not much explanation required there.
now for any gals on this site feel free to fire back !! however since all us men are perfect I don't think I will get a response. incase my wife see's this I can be reached at either Motel 6, Saint Lukes Medical center or my one single buddy's place.

Just goes from bad to worse. People who use a public restroom and 1) don't flush 2) pee all over the seat, floor or walls 3) load the throne with so much TP the thing plugs up. And yeah I got caught up short at the grocery store tonite and had to deal with that. That's pure common trash does things like that. Pure. Common. Trash. Shouldn't be allowed out in public.

This one doesn't necessarily **** me off, but I would like to know exactly why there isn't a strict building code for public/private restrooms doors. It doesn't make sense to me why restroom doors push in and you have to grab a dirty handle to pull the door open to leave the restroom. Wouldn't it make more sense to pull the restroom door open towards you when enter the restroom, and be able to push the door open to exit the restroom? There should be a kick-plate on the bottom of every restroom door so you don't even have to touch the door when exiting. As it stands, without a building code for restroom doors, after you wash your hands in the restroom, you get to grab the same filthy handle which all the unsanitary creeps who didn't wash their hands, or those who may have washed their hands for two seconds who have influenza, strep, any consortia of bacteria, virus and/or fungus used the same handle to leave the restroom. I'm sorry, this makes no sense to me.

I'm with you, I can't stand injustice! I almost got fired once for standing up for a coworker that was getting abused, by the shop steward no less! His reward was getting promoted to supervisor! The nerve of some people!!!

I'm with you, too. I have to use paper towels to open the door, then find a place to discard them.

That's exactly what I do. Wash hands, dry hands w/ paper towel(s) if they have any (I hate the restrooms with ONLY the air blow dryers and no paper towels), then use the paper towels to grab handle & open the door to exit.

For the most part 4 wheelers are a respectful bunch who enjoy the 4x4 trails and respect the land they don't trash the land, they close cattle gates after passing and clean up after themselves, so this pissed me off !! while on a 4x4 trip to a old ghost town called Tip Top we had to cross the
Hassayampa River, it just so happens the shallow crossing was also a great swimming area with sandy shores where people tend to party. While making the crossing one trip I looked around and saw countless beer bottles, cans, cardboard beer containers and the most disgusting of all was I think a must have seen 50 or so disposable diapers on the shore !! REALLY come on people dont be pigs !! I hate littering and this made me want to puke !! the area of which I speak was actually a oasis in the desert ! water, huge cottonwood trees and a sandy beach on a small river
beautiful until thoughtless disrespectful people ruined it , this was one of the only routes to that old ghost town and from what I understand the rancher who used to allow 4 wheelers access closed and locked the gates THANKS idiots. so litter bugs torque my shorts.

People who believe it is their God-given right to impose their will and beliefs on you, and to shout you down and ostracize you if you don't agree with them. This applies to faith, politics, car brands, you name it.

Trolls who will not say something to your face but hide behind the anonymity of a keyboard. Some of the PMs I've received here would probably have resulted in injuries had these individuals said these things to me directly.

Someone bashed me a while back over something I supposedly posted on Facebook. Being as I'm not ON FB, how could I have posted it?

Add anonymous accusations. Went thru a pile of those in my career that all got put to rest when the truth came out in the investigations. I was blindsided by all of them but someone else got their jollies.

Can y'all tell I don't think highly of anonymity? Have the ***** to say it to my face. I believe in the right to face one's accuser.

Can only imagine how Virginia's new gun laws will be used nefariously against otherwise law-abiding people. Yeah, I've dealt with vindictive ex-es too, along with people for whom defaming and inconveniencing others is a sport.

Any wonder I try to keep to myself and not interact much with people?

People at work who think they own the place, spreading gossip and innuendo when they're bored, and feel they must create some havoc at the expense of someone else. I've seen it and been dragged into it so many times! It boils down to plain, old arrogance. I can't wait to be rid of these fools!

Since the thread still lives....Some of my customers are offered a 2% discount if they pay in ten days. Mostly, this works out fine...give, or take a couple of days. But there is always the crooks that try to spoil it for everybody else,

I just received a payment today, that I invoiced at 2%-10 Net 30. This was at their request BTW. Over 60 Days past due, numerous phone calls and emails and they still deducted the 2% discount.

What's interesting is, when they requested this 2% - 10 net 30 Terms I remined them that they had a history of late payments so I wasn't sure what good it would do. Now I know.

Well, I hope they enjoy it. Future orders will have a 5% increase tagged on to them for now on.

My wife is always cold, she complains anytime it’s below 60 degrees. So far this year it’s been pretty mild as far as temp for November/December, we had or first colder than normal day last week. My wife flip out when she head on the news it was going to be 20 degrees, she kinda yelled that “I’m not ready for this crap!” She really didn’t like it when I told her I’m buying her a calendar, obviously she has no clue what month this is.

My rant: anytime I get in her car I find the automatic climate controls cranked full hot. No matter how many times I explained the entire purpose behind the automatic climate control is to set the desired temp, the climate control will maintain that temp. No need to screw around with the temp.

I HATE dual zone climate control!!!! She cranks her temp up on her side, which naturally warms my side up. There is no carrier between sides of the car, how exactly is the dual zone climate control suppose to work???? It infuriates her when I roll down the window when I get to warm. My youngest stepdaughter complains about being cold also, I usually can count on nasty looks when I suggest putting on something besides a tee shirt, yoga pants, or ripped jeans. “But there cute!!!”

I work in a hot, noisy factory. My wife always suggests sitting outside when we go out for dinner. No thanks. I don’t sit in a nice quiet air conditioned office all day (btw, she keeps a small heater under her desk&#128580 I don’t want to sit outside to eat, even if it is only 80 outside. I want to soak up comfortable air conditioning whenever possible!

It's like I tell young friends when their lady is driving them nuts. The man who can understand women, were he able to bottle and sell it, would be a zillionaire. And as you see I'm still a po-*****!

I have a good story about the first time one of them's girlfriend saw him naked, but it prob wouldn't pass the censors! I spent over an hour listening to the boy rant about that one...
