Texas vacation.
My girlfriend and I will be taking a vacation in Texas in late March/early April and would like to take in any car shows or swap meets while we are there.
We will be staying with friends in Llano, about 70 miles north west of Austin, and also plan to make a trip to the Grand Canyon sometime.
Any suggestions would be welcomed, especially if we could break up our journey in New Mexico or Arizona, and meeting up with fellow Oldsmobile enthusiasts would be a big bonus for us too.
Last year we struck lucky, coming across the Packard meet in Salado. We had a great day looking at the cars and talking with the owners. If we could repeat the experience at a different venue it would make our vacation all the more memorable, an Olds themed show would be great!.
We also welcome ideas for offbeat entertainment, it doesn't have to be car related, a few years ago I found the "Cockroach Hall of Fame" in Plano and had a fun afternoon!.
Thanks in anticipation,
Roger & Lynn.

Thank you.
Thanks for your suggestions so far, we arrive on March 23rd and leave April 7th, sadly we wont be able to make the Bluebonnet Festival but the Lonestar Roundup sounds good.
The only event on our must do list to date is the rodeo at Austin fairground - Lynn has not seen one yet and also wants to try funnel cake!.
We have eaten at Coopers before and most definitely will be going back for more.
Any more ideas are welcome and once again a big thank you to all who replied to my request so far.
Regards,
Lynn & Roger.

That's a link for a place that looks cool. Haven't been there, but might take my dad & son during spring break (mid-March.)

Central Texas Museum of Automotive History
Thanks for pointing out my error sb, I've been staying at Llano on and off since 2001 and really ought to know where it is by now!. Maybe I'm turning from grey to blonde. I've fixed my mistake BTW.
I visited the museum in 2007, it's worth the trip. When I was there several British & European cars were on display that were never marketed in the USA. I hope you enjoy taking your folks there.

Sounds excellent, be sure if you have never had them to get yourself some doughnuts from Round Rock Doughnuts. Rated the best doughnuts in all of Texas and most the USA.
Yummmmmmmm.

We're here!
Hi all,
We arrived last Wednesday, spent a day getting ourselves sorted out and took off Friday to Grand Canyon via Tombstone & Flagstaff, returning via Amarillo to check out Cadillac Ranch -it's deteriorating fast- & the Buddy Holly center in Lubbock.
Today we are catching up with laundry and spending a day NOT racking up miles in a Hyundai rental car!.
We are going to Cars'n'coffee in Leander on Sunday, we would be delighted to meet up with anyone there and put a face to the car pics.

So how many OK-like Corrals did you visit in Tombstone?
See any of the several only authentic re-creations of the gunfight?
Those cowboys all look like in their former jobs they would have been riding on the backs of garbage trucks wearing orange safety vests, same as Kid Rock.
I've heard of this place called "Bowling Pin Ranch" where they have ten white '68 442's with red W36 stripes standing on end and arranged in a triangle.
In front of them is a giant bowling ball/souvenir shop/restaraunt.

I guess the less you know about historic events the more you enjoy tourist oriented re-enactments. As I understand it the gunfight took place in a back alley and was all over in about 30 seconds, but that doesn't make for a good show that lasts 30 minutes!.
Any idea where "Bowling Pin Ranch" is located?.
