Taylor Hawkins passed

Very sad news today about Taylor Hawkins passing on tour. Foo Fighters are one of today's best rock and roll bands. Taylor Hawkins was one kick *** drummer. I feel for all of them. Especially his wife and kids. Only speculation on my part but assuming drug related. Drugs kill kids. Don't even start. Rest In Power Taylor 🙏

So sad, he was an extremely talented guy. It is being reported that he was on several medications that potentially can lead to accidental overdose. We'll have to wait for complete Toxicology report to find out.

Terrible. So talented. One of one. Drugs kids. Do Not do drugs.

Foo Fighters was joke of a name. Dave Grohl must just be crushed. Pat too. All of them. Foo Fighters are Rock and Roll kids. For those not in the know. Heavy loss.

Dave must be crushed.

I have been around a lot of bands. Drummers are their own beat always.

Taylor killed it...

He was probably the only other person I've seen wearing EVH board shorts..ha. Top 5 modern drummers IMO, and probably one of the main reasons I had wanted to see a Foo concert. It definitely sucks.

Not sure of the quantity or what they were, but he was under doctor care for a number of issues, and most of the drugs were Rx's, is my understanding. But, still...

Right. Doctor prescribed drugs are even worse. We lose way too many people to prescription drugs. All Drugs are bad kids. All of them. He was a crazy talent.

Yeah ... one or more of the substances was antidepressants. WTF did he have to be depressed about? I guess nobody could read his mind, though.

Well, there are many things that can cause depression, so simplifying someone's state of mind based on one's status as a successful, famous drummer, really isn't fair.

You're right on the money Weezer. Depression has many causes and many aren't what you would think.

Agreed. Depression hits people for many many different reasons. Usually very unique to that person.

Sorry, I guess I was raised old-school. The recent epidemic of depression out there seems to coincide neatly with a couple of generations of people who have grown up in such privileged circumstances as to afford them far too much time to think about how they feel.

It has nothing to do with privilege. Unless you have lived the life of a musician or actor you do not understand what being on the road for 200 plus days a year does to you. You live out of a suitcase, eat crap food, sleep on a tour bus or hotel night after night...... It isn't as glamorous as you think. The meds are usually for actual ailments at first, then they are a dependency. Then it's too late.
A close friend was an actor, he didn't use drugs but he smoked cigarettes like a chimney and throat cancer got him, but he told me about the "fun" lonely nights and issues he saw other actors put up with. Yes they are privileged financially but that is also a curse. Please done not stereotype people just because they have money, or so called privilege.

Agreed..look at all the actors/musicians/celebrities who suffer from depression. Being put on a pedestal isn't as great as it seems, and at the end of the day they're people too..and they may not be strong enough to handle it.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Foo Fighters but did like most of their music.
Remember Taylor from a documentary about Dennis Wilson, drummer of the Beach Boys.
He worked on one of Dennis’ unfinished songs Holy Man, and really nailed it.
Both met tragic ends due to substances. Both gone too soon.

Listen close to the words

Taylor Hawkins earned his chops in both Sass Jordan's and Alanis Morrisette's touring bands before connecting with Dave Grohl. 50 is way too young.

My wife and kids HATE IT when a AC/DC song comes on the radio. I always remind them in a loud voice “THOSE GUYS ROCK!!!!”

I would have loved to see them during the Bon Scott years. Brian Johnson is also great, but I think Bon did far more with less.

this is a bit dated (I just read in the paper Angus just had his 67 bday) but this pretty much says it all

I posted the Dropkick Murphys' version over an AC/DC to give a lesser known band some exposure.

After some of you pointed out, rightly, that you never know what an outwardly successful person has going on inside, the gist was to make you listen to the words. Famous or not, a touring musician's life is tough. Or as AC/DC said, it's rough and mean.

Besides, as a fellow Gael I think Bon Scott would approve the Dropkicks' cover. They can also tear up "Baba O'Riley".

But for the purists...

Very true. AC/DC were a lot of things, but they certainly weren't "Dad Rock".

I mean, the Foos were much more dimensional than ACDC. I used to be heavy into ACDC, and once I picked up the guitar I realized how simple they were. Its not a knock, but they're not the most technical band out there by far.

I'm ashamed to admit that I can't really distinguish Bon Scott-era AC/DC from Brian Johnson-era AC/DC. Regardless, agreed that FF have many more levels. It will be interesting to see if and when they come up with a replacement for TH and who it might be.

I dont think they should go on without Taylor, personally. Dave aside, they've had a long enough run to be in the HoF..when that much talent and personality is no longer there, you're phoning it in (i.e Kiss)

Well, as a half-*** garage band drummer, I'll say that Taylor didn't have such a distinctive sound (unlike, say, John Bonham) that he couldn't be replaced. My bet is that FF will take a hiatus and then carry on, TH's personal relationship with Dave notwithstanding.

I'm not saying Taylor is comparable to Bonham (he even admits it)..but he's definitely one of the better ones out there in today's era.

I wouldn't deny his technical chops for a second. I just don't find his sound particularly distinctive, is all.
