A Question of Ethics ...

Most people detest c**** engined in an Olds ...

A couple of them are toying with the Idea of using a C**** Electronic trans,
which I would do on a heartbeat ...

For those who haven't figured it out yet... I detest Chevy engines in anything but a Chevrolet! I'm fine with them there, though I still think a 350 SBC is the most boring engine on the planet.

The saving grace on the electronic OD is that it will usually have "HydraMatic Div GMC" stamped into it somewhere.

But in all honesty, with the extra electronics it takes to make the thing operate, I'd as soon stick with a 200-4R or even a 700 to get overdrive. At least all that would require is a quality adapter plate.

Would it be O.K. to use a Rat Motor if you took it out of a 'Vette and parted out the rest ...

In my quest for a replacement motor so I could drive my car while working on the motor, I found 3 compleat 454s' at local pick-a-parts (eng/trans for 500) and not an Olds in site...

I like seeing original on my cars, but if a 454 is what you can get and it works, for me, seeing an Olds on the road is good, even with a Chebby drivetrain. The Olds engines are very good, especially a 455, but the body styling is what initially attracted me to Oldsmobiles initially.

What the heck are you even talking about here? is this a question or a statement?

Can't you guys let this crap go? If you don't want a chevy motor or chevy anything in your car, don't do it.

If you want to- then do it and be damned what other people think.

Its like a bunch of JR high girls arguing...

What are you on, cause i want some....

If purists toys with the idea of runnin non-olds equipment, they are not Purists- by the general definition of "Purist".

I'm one of the guys planning to yank out and scrap my original #'s matching Olds motor to drop in a belly button BBC, So i'm pretty far from a purist.

So seriously- I just don't understand what you were trying to find out here

I would consider putting a 700 R4 or 200 4R transmission in an Olds. I think that is different than putting a Chevy engine in an Olds. If someone wants to build a Chevy engine and put it in there Olds then that is ok, it is their car. I will still make fun of them though since Chevy engines are goofy!

In my 68 cutlass conv., I have a Buick 2004R and a Pontiac 3.55 10 bolt posi.
Does that make me some kind of Commie?
I'd like to have an all Olds, but the Buick 2004R has a good reputation, and I got the 10 bolt cheap, and it was better than my 2.56 Olds one legger.
PS. The 455 is Oldsmobile.

Is it ok for me to remove my 350 chevy out of my suburban and replace it with a 455 ? because if I blow one more engine in this truck I'm going to retrofit one bada$$ 455 in this thing.
Just me pondering what the outcome would be and if I could change the badging to OLDS.
Steve

I think it would be cool. What year, GM put 350 Olds diesel engine in them in the 80's Blazers if you can find one in the junk yard. You can take the engine mount bracket off it and use it on yours if it is 73-90 Suburban and I believe it would have to be a 4x4 frame I don't know if it would work on a 2wd Suburban. If newer then you will have to do some fabrication.

Funny you say that...at Seven Springs this past year, there was a Suburban with all chevy badging removed and olds badging installed! He created Olds' version of the Suburban. I think it was all cosmetic changes though!

Now we're talking! The bigger the better. Those motors were torque monsters. I had a friend with one of those in his deville. That thing would smoke the sh*# out of the tires. Another friend of mine had a stage 1 455 pushing 550hp in his 73 Electra. Talk about big boat surprise!

I know I am getting off the subject here but if I could get my hands on something like that.....

What makes my car special....is that it has a genuine Oldsmobile engine. I like Olds because it's different. It's not something you see everywhere. Chevy/Ford parts are everywhere. Oldsmobile brings the curious over at car shows and cruise nights. But it's your car.

The easy way out is to throw in a Chevy crate engine. But I've never liked easy. I always figure it's thier car they can do what they like. I personally like to see the same brand engine as the car. At a car show I first look at the engine and if it's not the same brand as the car I just move to the next car. Ken

If you go to a car show look at the 32 Fords. Most them have Cheby engines about 90% of them. I like to see someone build one with a Olds engine.

I have to go with Rambow here. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but this isn't a question of ethics. Like most situations like this brought up here, it is just a matter of preference. To me, it sounds like you're asking for permission, which is, uh, more like JH girls arguing than it is getting any meaningful advice.

You could always put a Chevy engine in your Olds with faux Oldsmobile valve covers. That would even fool the guy with the red beard.
