Professional Oldsmobiles

I was killing time on the interwebs and ran into a few Olds Professional Cars that I thought I would share.

A few months back I went out of the neighborhood the back way and there sat a 69 Cotner-Bevington Combination in someone's driveway. Pretty sure it saw ambulance service as it was a high-top and painted red and white. I only saw it the one time so I guess it was a visitor. Still cool to see the Oldsmobile professional cars. I had thought they were all on Ninety Eight chassis but I see you found some on Cutlass chassis.

Passenger car based ambulances did the job for many years until the government got into it with minimum specs for ambulances, and after that, nothing but truck-based rigs.

Good question. The last two I've seen were in the same salvage yard near Winston-Salem NC and the guy wouldn't sell either the cars or parts. A 67 and a 68. This was about 11 years ago.

Back in the 60's, funeral homes operated the ambulances. I remember in 1966 when I was working for a Buick dealer, one of the local funeral homes that had ambulance service bought a 66 Buick Special Wagon to use as an ambulance. It was special ordered so they could get the color they used on all their vehicles at the time which was a medium blue used on 57 Cadillacs. The dealership mounted the light bar and siren supplied by the funeral home and that was about it. I don't think they even had anything in the back to strap the stretcher down. That is a long way from today.

Question, does your Toro have front disc brakes?

That is a great website and club if you have an interest in professional cars. There is a strong base of Olds owners over there that are passionate about their special built Olds and other brands of professional cars.
